Would be nice to get a draw within a month of the 1st game... Reckon we're a chance? :D

Having said that, I know teams generally aren't sure that they'll have a team until up to a few weeks out. I know we never know. We've never had a practice match because of it!

Anyone from the other clubs know if they're definite starters yet?

Dingley are in. Maybe not as strong this year. Last year there were 35 to choose from, this year maybe only 25. Had to put their fees up.

I think we're trying a different structure for the dudes who mainly play 3's.

Good to see thought that another 1st divvy club is in still... Much easier to organise all the games at 1 venue. Especially for us, as we're a bit stretched for helpers.

Does anyone know what clubs will be fielding a thirds side this season? like in the 2nd's or 3rd's division and would be of lower grade than a reserves team in the Nepean League?

I'm feeling a little out of my depth at the current club I'm playing at. I'll get a chance to play in some practice matches in the next two weeks to see where I'm at, but am not overly optimistic.

What part of town are you in?

We won't know until probably 2-3 weeks out from the start of the season who's got a side and who hasn't.

I’m in Cranbourne as was probably looking around the Dandenong area. I've also edited my initial query as I'm hoping that such a thirds side would be of a lower grade than a reserves team in the Nepean League. I don’t think that I’m a complete hack, but the club I’m training with (despite having a great bunch of guys and culture and am really enjoying my time there) just seems to have a heap of players of which I can’t see myself pushing past many and into the reserves team to actually get a few games (without the absence of multiple injuries). Heck I’d even put two or three of the under 18’s in ahead of myself and some of the older guys also looking to get into the reserves.

Oh well I guess having to wait 2-3 weeks would probably be a good thing anyway as I haven’t played in a looong time and gives me a chance to see in the praccy matches if I can just float above water and get a game every second week, or regrettably have to move to another club with a thirds side just so I can get a run most weeks or simply hang up the boots altogether after two-three games lol.

Well the 3's comp is made up of teams from 1st, 2nd & 3rd Div. Sandown have had 2 3rds sides over the last few years, I reckon they'd be going again. Seem like a pretty good club. Dandenong have had a side, but I'm not sure if they'd be going again. Sandown would be my 1st port of call, but they might be a bit far away. There's rumours new Club Carrum Patterson lakes might be having a 3's. Skye had 3's last year.

So yeah, maybe wait to see who's a confirmed starter.

Thanks "JustAnotherMembe"

We are still discussing whether we will be fielding two 3rds sides for the 2013 season.
The club has a great culture and a great bunch of guys. We have a huge affiliation with the Cranbourne region with 15 or so players being ex-Cranbourne boys with about 50% of the team living out that way.

Come down on Wednesday for a kick at Edinburgh reserve (just of police rd) 6pm.

It is interesting to read this thread as i am hooked up with thirds side with a club in another league and we too are also struggling with numbers on the training track in pre season. the story we have been told is they have cricket training even though we have been training on the off nights to cricket training .
i belive that due to low numbers most of kids playing think they dont have to train as they can just roll up and play as they know the numbers are short and they will get a game which is whats happening as clubs dont want to give walk over .The kids just do not want to work hard which is a pitty as they will never develop into senior players they might just make a seconds player at best. i would love to hear some ideas about getting the unders on the training track

Are you talking about 3rds (Under 18's/19's/Colts) or 3's (3rd senior/Clubbies side)?

Soooo the draw is out...

The good points: Its a lot more fair this year. Everyone plays everyone once, and then 4 teams twice. MUCH better than the shenanigans of last year where some teams played others 3-4 times, where others didn't play them at all.

Bad points, from our point of view: There's only 3 1st Div sides in it this year, you woulda thought they'd have 1's, 2's, 3's & Colts all playing at the same ground on those games.

We don't play at home until Rd 5 & only 2 at home in the 1st 8 rounds. (6 at home in the last 8 makes up for it I guess)

Overall, the fact that the draw is more even gives it a PASS mark, in what is probably a pretty tricky task.

Sad to see Highett & Clayton drop out though, thats for sure.

My early prediction for the Flag: Sandown. Went from 2 sides to 1, which should strengthen up what was already a very good side.

We played Sandown in round 1. They have lost a heap of players, 3 or 4 of their thirds side last year are playing in their ones this year. Going by results I think maybe Cerbrus maybe the favourite.

Seems perhaps you're trying to deflect..... We played Cerberus Rd. 1 and although they had some out, we played with 17 and with only 7 from our Granny side playing and were up just before 3/4 time.

Looks like you guys are probably travelling the best at the minute, along with maybe Skye. But yeah, I assumed Sandown would be strong this year after their year last year.

We're struggling with numbers at the moment..There's probably 10-15 injuries from the 1's down and probably another dozen that departed the club, so it's been a battle to get on the park the 1st 2 weeks.

Dingoes also played without a bench last week. Had to make a few calls just to get the 18. Lucky our Colts had a bye so we were able to play a few of them in the Reserves. 10 or so injuries at the club at the minute which is stretching numbers. I think it's going to be one of those years where at about round 13-14 a few of our Thirds will need to make a decision before they play too many Reserves games and can't qualify for Thirds Finals.

Far be it from me to be supporting the opposition, but make sure you're on top of it, we had a couple players desperately unlucky to miss out last year by a game.

Welcome Moorabbin into the Thirds comp...See you Saturday.
I liked the email from the League. "Due to an influx of players" Just last week they poached our Reserves V/C and our Colts Ruckman. Both have been given money to play Seniors there. You would expect them to be another percentage boost for the top sides in the Thirds but at least there is no longer a bye.

Where are you from RR?

They might be getting us at the right time. Our joint is pretty ravaged with injuries. From the 1's down. We're just lucky the U19's have a bye this week, otherwise we may not have been able to fill a team.

From Dingley. We copped a touch up from Cerberus on the weekend. I think Cerberus were expecting to be playing a pretty strong Dingley Side, they bought some big boys down and good footballers. We probably have about 10 players unavailable across the 1sts, 2nds and 3rds at the moment as well. A positive is, it's better to cop them now than near the finals.
