Is their any AFL computer games out at the moment. With Christmas just around the corner, I would like to know what AFL games are around, and if they are any good.

These are the ones that I know of that have been released in the past.

AFL Finals Fever - GOOD GAME!
AFL 98
AFL 99

And soon to be released, in this month I believe (november),
AFL Coach 2002 (is this the correct name?)

Hey Mase I got that AFL Finals Fever Game to. That was the first ever footy game I bought. The game was pretty hilarious to play, a bit simple perhaps. After the game finishes and hearing your team song played was pretty kewl. My biggest complaint with the game is that when you had mastered it, the game was to easy. I would win games conceeding only 1 goal, very unrealistic. The other problem with the game was that Fitzroy was the hardest team to beat, due to the fact that they were a quick team. No way was Fitzroy any good in those days.

LOL yeah I know what you mean.

I had trouble beating Fremantle aswell when I first started.
In all it was good fun, and good game play. It was good you could hear the song, and see individual stats at the end of each game.

I played a full match once, 25 minute quarters.
I was Sydney and played Carlton on the hardest level (hahaha).

The final score was something like 954 to 71 or alike
Lockett finished with 63 goals. I had Paul Licuria in the forward pocket, as he was a swan at the time, and he finished with 60 goals. Good fun hehehe
I still play it every now and again!

Are you allowed to cheat about the salary cap & collude with the Captain of Xavier in the draft, to get the best players??? :D

Yep. You can even trade for players who want to play finals and then watch their original team win a flag

For a game that was honestly so crappy and easy...it was one of the most addictive games ive played.
Whoever was the quickest side was thebest. That meant Fitzroy was the hardest to beat as their players were mostly ultra quick.

What made it harder...but then better in the end on my computer was that because my computer nowadays exceeded the recommended computer options back then...the game runs at about 2-3x quicker than what it really should...which makes it harder cos you have to be very alert.

Ive played about 400 games of that...fantastic game!!!!!

I hope Kevin Sheedy's coaching game will be good, if so i will prolly grab it for christmas but the one i really want is the playable game where you can actually control the player. I hear that one wont be out till March next year so ill just have to wait.

I though it was August but anyway that will be good that you can contorl the footy players. Is it coming out on PS2 and do you think it will be better getting it on PS2 if it does come out?

Cheers..

I know its really outdated, but the best footy game I've played for one on one competition is the Aussie Rules game on the original Nintendo. After a couple of hours of practice you should be able to beat the computer by 20 goals, so 1 player isnt much good, but if you have a mate or a brother or sis that is any good, its a fantastic game!

The graphics arent the best, but the players are easy to control, they move fluently in all directions (unlike the awkward to control AFL98&99) and games can be really competitive.

On the downside, they dont use actual player names and the team jumpers are only the one colour. The game was made in 1990 so in enthusiastically planning for the future they added Darwin, Canbera and Hobart  :D But, you do get a choice of 20 odd teams incl Fitzroy but without Freo and Port.
You do get the occasional annoying 'out of bounds, on the full" :D comment by the umpire, but otherwise its a good game.
