We were 18% worse off.

We were 4 games and 30% from 2nd spot (3 games + 18% 2007)

We were 3 games and 38% from 3rd spot (3 games + 18% 2007)

We were 3 games and 31% from 4th spot (2 games + 3% 2007)

We were 3 games and 30% from 5th spot (2 games + 0% 2007)

We were 2 games and 38% from 6th spot (2 games + 0% 2007)

We were 1 game and 27% from 7th spot (2 game + 0% 2007)

We were 1 game and 0% from 8th spot (1 game + 5% 2007)

So in summary We are a lot closer to top 4 than we were in 2006 , We could actually drop 1 or maybe 2 games and still make it.

Our destiny is firmly in our own hands.

Interesting to note that last year the team we replaced in the top 4 was sitting 3rd in round 13. ;)

We were 1 game and 0% from 8th spot (1 game + 5% 2007)

Also in the run home We did not have.

Solly
Taz
Grover
Thornton
Scham was dropped for round 13.
Much of Justin
Much of Hase
Lost both J Carr & D.J in rounds 17 & 18 to suspension

We are in far better shape this year , the only notable out ATM is Peaker - the loss of Justin is well covered by big Nockers IMO.

This time last year it was Sydney that beat us after the break. But it's well documented that this was the game that changed our season. The boys don't win very often over there, time to break another hoodoo!

In your next 7 games you play

Sydney - away
Kangaroos - home
Adelaide - away
Geelong - home
West Coast - home
Essendon - home
St Kilda - away

and then you finish with Melbourne and Port

All of those 7 teams are in the top 8 or currently fighting for a spot, no easy games there. How does that compare with the run home you had last year and I know your aiming for more but will 12 wins get you there or does it look likely that 13 may be needed this year?

With those games if you make the 8 you will have really earned your spot. Good luck because along the way I think you are going to need some :)

Just did some quick research...

We played:
Sydney - Finished 4th (lost that game)
Essendon - 15th
Collingwood - 5th
Melbourne - 7th
Carlton - 16th
Hawthorn - 11th
Adelaide - 2nd
Saints - 6th
West Coast - 1st
Port Adelaide - 12th

We played 6 teams who finished in Top 8 and 4 teams in bottom 8. Id say that was a pretty good effort, the only top 8 side we didnt play were the Western Bulldogs.

Much the same.

We played
Round 14 - Essendon - home - 16th
Round 15 - Collingwood - away - 4th
Round 16 - Melbourne - home - 3rd

Round 17 - Carlton - away -15th
Round 18 - Hawks - home -14th
Round 19 - Adelaide - away - 1st
Round 20 - Saints - home - 4th
Round 21 - WC - home - 1st

Round 22 - Port - home - 11th

wheather the club likes or not our fate is in our own hands including that of the coach individual players and the team as a whole . its time for all those that were recruited with the aim of adding to our experience to stand up and be counted .

By playing top 8 teams, we are given the opportunity of leapfrogging them. If we win a bundle of those games, 11 wins may well be enough for any team to get in.

The bottom line is that we are only 2 games from 4th.

Bring it on

The calculations are quite simple. Win this week and we should make the eight, lose this week and we won't play finals.

Lose at the SCG and we'll have to win 6 of our last 8, if we aren't good enough to beat an out of form Sydney when we are at full strength then we won't win some of the tougher games we have coming up.

Win this week and we're 7 and 7, with 4 of our next 5 games at Subi. We can launch an assault on the top 6 if we win this weekend.

If we beat the swans I'll be getting on us to win the flag at big odds. Still paying $2.50 to make the 8 for those who are confident that we'll win on Sunday.

Tempting odds Dom, I won't be betting though as I have worked out a way to make a small fortune out of gambling.

Would you like to elaborate?

I would have thought the big win by Iris would have made everyone in Meeka gambling addicts!
