ADELAIDE
B: Bassett, Biglands, Shirley
HB: Doughty, McGregor, Hentschel
C: Reilly, Ricciuto, Stenglein
HF: Jericho, Watts, Johncock
F: Edwards, Bock, Welsh
FOLL: Clarke, McLeod, Bode
I/C (from): Massie, Hudson, Skipworth, Torney, Gallagher, Rutten, Mattner
IN: Massie, Hudson, Torney, Gallagher
OUT: Smart (Retired)

Looks like Torney for Smart is the only change unless they decide to play the three ruckman

Blight was a big one for doing that and I wonder if Craig had a say in that sort of thing back then

Guess we won't know until we see the SANFL teams tomorrow.

I know we dont have anyone else...but I still dont like Biglands in defence. He just cant read the play and continully gets lead to the ball. I'm expecting Neitz to carve us up.

Bock at FF is interesting.

Still no sign of Perrie. He's tradebait for sure.

I hear we are having a closed training session on Saturday due to Power spies.

I also notice that we havent worn leggings during training. New instructions are that we don't play in them, so we shouldnt train in them. I hope we dont see a rise in hamstring injuries this month.

Biglands at FB - I say now Neitz for 7 goals.

Perrie - yes maybe in trouble here.

I can see both sides of the argument on the legins.
If it works and we don't get soft tissue injuries - thats one for Craig

I'm quite surprised that Jericho is in the starting 18, considering how much game time he got last week.

Shirley in the back pocket is interesting. If he is playing on Davey then his (Shirley's) lack of pace would be exhibited.

Bock at FF is strange indeed, although I remember Basset was placed at FF but never played there.

I expect Torney will be the only one coming into the side, although don't be surprised to see someone like Mattner be dropped for some reason.

I would rather have Hentschel playing at CHB on Miller and Kenny playing at FB on Neitz.

Other than that it's not too bad given our choices.

Although Shirley didn't seem to do too badly on the electric pace of Judd. If Vardy is playing I wouldn't mind seeing Shirley go to him.

Fair point, I guess Shirley kept a very, very tight knit on Judd to make sure he never broke away.

Shirley on Vardy would be a great matchup, as both are of similar build.

But then, who would play on Davey? Perhaps Johncock, but we will most likely need his creativity and pace up forward.

A long shot, but what about Edwards? I like him down back rather than up forward - he'd also be able to run off, link up and create from halfback.

Depends if we want to win or get a priority pick ;)

I'm getting confused!! :p

Seriously, one of the reasons we beat the Bullies was the centre bounce strength inside the square.

Edwards actually played at centre, with Roo on-ball and changing up forward or rotating off the ground. Macca played as a rover, resting up forward.

Also we started with Biglands as our main ruckman, so that unlike Clarke, the opposition has no idea where the ball is beeing directed to - neither does Biglands.

With our best 3 ball gatherers in the centre square 90% of the time, our attack got first look at it from these 3 more often than not.

I would think that we would stick with this centre square set-up because it's all quality.

The only guy I can think of in our team who could match it for pace and athleticism with Davey is Jericho, and Jericho goes alright in defence as well.

He'd be my choice.

Well if the "rules" of Ayres and Craig are the same then everyone in starting 18 will play for sure.

I had a sneaking suspision that we might play Biglands on Neitz. Before the lot of you start and say Neitz will kick 7, why don't you pull out a tape of 2002 final against Melbounre and see what was the match winning move by Ayres and hear Walls make a fool of himself again by saying Biglands should never play on Neitz. A quarter later Walls is praising the move and said its a big advantage to have Biglands play on Neitz

Now onto the side, I am pretty happy with it aand I am stoked that Jezza keeps his spot. Under Ayres Jezza would have been dropped this week. Looks like things have changed a bit.

I am all for closed training sessions and I always wondered why we didn't have those in the past when practicing set plays and other tactics that we want to carry out in a game.

As for legings, good on Craig. i never understood why the hell we used them in training. If you are not using them in games don't use them at training. After all we are trying to simulate match conditions on the training track.

I agree with dyertribe and I reckon Shirley would be a good match up on Vardy. I also agree with macca23 in playing Jezza on Davey.

Should be an interesting game. I am looking forward to seeing Bell make his debut (if he survives the cut). I have watched him a couple of times as a junior and was really impressed with his ability. He has had a bad run with injuries but the kid has some pace and is a good build. Would love him at the Crows. He comes out of contract at the end of the year so it might be a possibility.:)

Matchups

With no Perrie, think we need to play either Hentschel or Kenny at CHF to take the pressure off Watts in only his 2nd game.

Does anybody remember Shirley getting killed by S.Burgoyne in last year's showdown. When on song, Vardy is even better than SBurgoyne.

It'll be alright, Vards has had his one great game for the year.

I think we will probably play Kenny there. Not keen on Hentschel playing CHF full time.

I reckon Rivers on Watts would be a match up to watch.

Daniher on radio yesterday said Bell would be brought into the side inthe next couple of weeks, despite form of incumbant players.
He is very very highly thought of, strong, direct and long kick - and with the enthusiasm Daniher was expressing about him, I don't think you'll see any possibility of him coming to the Crows.

You mean the Adelaide Football Club lied? How dare they lie to supporters, and, more importantly, journalists???

As Agents Scully and Mulder said "the truth is out there". Football clubs must not stand in the way of us finding it.

;)

I don't know whether we have any one to go with Davey. This guy is one of the quickest players i have ever seen, not even Jericho i reckon would be able to catch him!
Best bet is Edwards but we need him in the Guts.
