That gives us 5 picks. Most of the other speculation is just day-dreaming. Trades simply don't happen in this league - only 13 players last year and 17 in 2004. Guys under contract don't get cut unless they do a Zantuck.

Roach is gone. He is currently last midfielder picked. Says it all.

You're forgetting Gaspar. He's only be able to get out on the ground for a handful of games this year. Not worth paying a bloke big bucks for that, even if he gets cut to $200-250K next year. His salary could be put towards a full complement of rookies instead. They should start at the blokes who are at the end of their careers - Gaspar, Chaffey, Stafford.

would like 2 see roach either retained or rookie-listed although lots of you think differently about him. Obviously has a stack of potential, has just had bad luck etc. he would need to show something in the last few weeks to get retained on the list...otherwise hope we rookie-list him.

Also, would like 2 keep limbach on the list.

At end of season couglan and newman will b placed back on main list...meaning howat and humm rookies again.

As staf will retire a spot will open for howat, which he will have.
Humm will not be retained...so hopefully roach can have his place on the rookie-list if he doesnt show enough in the last few weeks to stay on senior list.

Cutting Gaspar doesn't free up a list spot. He is on the veterans list. We may as well keep one of Gaspar or Chaffey because they become a 'free' player. Let us have 40 to choose from instead of 39.

It frees up a spot on the rookie list and whatever salary he re-signs for would probably pay for 3 or 4 rookies. We've made far worse decisions based on financial reasons. And if his body is shot then keeping him may give us 40 on the list, but still only 39 to choose from. No point paying a bloke $200K+ to play 10 games. If the medicos give him a full bill of health to play on then maybe consider re-signing him, but lets face it, he hasn't showed too much ability to carry injuries and still contribute throughout his career.

Limbachs done enough to support his chances for another year..remembering he's a low draft selection ...Id think he'd be coming along nicely, in line with expectations for kids picked from the lower breaches of the draft...next year he would be expected to seriously press for senior selection

Nope Just dont think he will ever be up to afl level. Face it if it was not for his name? He would not even be at the club. If we were to keep him next season i feel it would be a waste for us and him.

But i agree i wouldnt put him on the rookie list.
