Good luck to the kid.

We had a crack, we missed out and we lost nothing.

U guys had everything to lose and common sense prevailed and u resigned a KP backman that has 150-200 games left in him. Still wonder how he wasn't resigned in the first place.

Just a shame that some Hawks posters and Carlton posters give their respective clubs such a bad name with all the garbage some of them have written over the last week. :thumbsd: :thumbsd: :thumbsd:

Good post LH and good luck for next season

Well done Blues on hanging tough.

Suck **** to Pelchan and those poaching hawk losers. Can't stand em!

Cheers:thumbsu:

Well I was wrong at having a go at them as well
The club did do it well in the end
but they should have had him signed up a long time ago and I hope they don't let this happen again .

This has made my weekend as Thornton is a top class player

Smooth Kooley. It'll be nice to have us all talking in the same direction from now on.

Until the AGM that is ;-). <sigh> 'tis the nature of footy clubs.

As a salute to the club's handling of this, please go out and buy that membership!

All that bitterness over the past few weeks, those comments, all swept under the carpet now?

Are we going to pretend this never happened? I for one have always stated that I'd rather Thornton to stay but... I'm still uneasy about all of this. Someone must've talked some sense into T-Bird becuase only last week I thought he was a goner, and that he wanted out.

And so did most others. I sense that the sudden change of temper is premature - if he wants my forgiveness, he'd better keep on showing the spirit and determination he has shown since he debuted. Those who have abused Thornton over the past few weeks and who are suddenly on his side now, I ask you: why the sudden change of heart? Did you not know for sure he didn't want to be at the club?

Perhaps the change of tune is justified if the players convinced him to stay on, but I certainly won't be forgetting T-Brd's attitude.

Thornton's staying is not the issue. He may go next opportunity, that happens at every club.
What was important was that Carlton used every weapon in its limited armoury to avoid being kicked while down. It's a curious fact that had you been second or third from bottom you'd have been stuffed. But you weren't, you were bottom and that #1 PSD pick was and remains a zinger.
Any of us from other clubs who watched know that that may be our club one day and that there is a way for our club to fight back. I am impressed.

This is definently a great sign. As most would proboly say "ahh he doesnt want to play so he can f off". Carlton are also to blame by under marking him and although thorton was not completely helpful in the end him and the blues have done the right thing. He is definently in our top 3 or 5 most required players. It is so hard in this era of football to find a fullback of his caliber giving 100%. I think dawson will be a great FB and hawthorn have something to look forward to.

Note to Hawks: Playing him on rocca aint gunna help

The other important thing is the three year deal........if he still wants out and the Hawks want him next year they'll have to come to the party.

IMO most of the statements "made by T-Bird" via his manager were all designed to do one thing, secure Bret a better contract, which at eh time was at the Hawks. I found it hard to believe (as did many others) that Bret wanted out due to the coach.....the board...the team....it was always about money and length of contract.

Only the club will know if he truly wanted out, or if as we see, he just wanted the right contract for him (and his manager).
If it was the former then it will show in years to come........it won't be forgotten and he will end up on the bad end of line ball selection decisions. If its the later, and he proves this with heart and soul performances then we will welcome him back with open arms.....

Verdict: Open....wait and see.

Excellent news and well done:thumbsu: as much as I would have liked T-Bird at Hawthorn it's great to see a player a club has put a lot of time into stay, particularly when the club will start to rise after a low point.
