Go back and look at the game. First there was no pack absent T bird. Secondly whether or not Armfield had a broken nose at the start of the game (which I doubt but can produce no evidence against your assertion and so resist calling you on it) his nose was certainly impacted by Thornton deleteriously. The deficiency highlighted by this incident was Thornton's inability to spoil the ball, for me the first requirement of a defender. I think I could live with other deficiencies (like attitude) that seem to upset others, and perhaps also his up in the air kicking, but I cannot accept his inability to spoil.

Actually the "small knock" Army copped would not have bothered me either if it hadn't prevented him from running onto the ball he had spoiled and stopped Higgins from goaling unopposed by the 2 blues spreadeagled on the ground. You say Thornton was not at fault and give no reason. I say he was at fault and have explained why.

You say he struggled with spoiling last year. I say he struggled with spoiling for at least the last several years and certainly argued as much with you this time last year.

I think even Thornton himself now knows he is currently outside our 'Best 22', as a forward, backman, ruckman, midfielder, anything.

If he can use his time in the 2's to build some form and force himself back into our team (be it forward or back) then he has done well and deserves his chance back in our team. He has an uphill battle, but its not beyond the realms of possibility he could reinvent himself into a handy forward option.

We already know he is a capable (at worst) defender, so he could play a part back there if required too. The sort of player a team needs in my opinion.

The ANC were terrorists until the end of apartheid, and Mandella jailed for it, then he became a hero (again not saying I dont agree that he is a hero). But Osama is the devil incarnate. I am no fan of the myth that is Osama, in fact I dont even think AlQadea existed before the US or more appropriately the hawks in the US admin at the time painted the picture of them we all take to be the truth now. And yes, history is written by the victors, thats why everyone is now running around trying to emulate the formation of Roman Legions to win games of footy....please.

And just to clarify, I dont think that anyone always gets decisions right. But I am way more inclined to trust those entrusted by those who know rather than the opinions of the rest of us. And when those who know lose trust in those currently entrusted, then they will be moved on, and I will fully embrace that decision when it is made, until then, the incumbents have my support. Its implicit in the membership fee I pay.

What are the odds that the collective footy wisdom of those at the club...lets not bother to count them but I am guessing in excess of 1000 AFL games combined, versus ..... and your guess is as good as mine but my guess is less than 10 AFL games of all posters to our board. (I actually think it to be a big fat blot, but hey you have to keep an open mind).

Its not a fair comparison I know. Perhaps it should be hair brained, prejudice laced based on one game I saw last year, vs trained professionals that spend every working hour analyzing and training up, working on strategy.......

Scratch all that, most of the mc can read and have IQs greater than their waist measurements.

I was a Vice President, B&F winner and state rep all in the one year at a football club.

It made me VERY tired.

I bet there's at lest 7 other fans who did the very same thing. So a new group is required.
