Thornton's future unclear
12 October 2006 Herald-Sun
The future of Carlton's Bret Thornton remains unclear.

Thornton, who is out of contract, plans to nominate for the national draft unless the Blues trade him to Hawthorn.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Can he nominate for ND? But isnot taken a risk of not ending at the hawks. Richmond can take him if they got the picks or any other team can.

I would think that's a misprint and they meant the Pre-Season Draft. If he enters the National Draft he'd be on base wages and could be picked up by anyone. There's no way that he'd do that as it could mean he'd still end up at the Blues for two years on base payments.

Wow. A one sentence news article which everyone already knew.

The papers are desperate.

Surely we are waiting for the Swans or Saints to do the Spider deal so we either get pick 15 or two picks and fringe player...
Need Spider deal to be done then we will play ball one would think!

He certainly can. He can nominate for both the National draft and the PSD. The national draft he doesn't have to name a price.
