No consistancy today.. bloody awful at times...
How the **** did West Corp not win that match with the amount of dodgy calls went their way....

How as that goal we got but was touched behind the line and was ruled a point....

I thought we did ok with the umps today to be honest. Although that might be because I was watching with an eagles supporter who was quick to (repetitively) tell me every time he thought they were hard done by. ;)

There were a couple of colossal f**k ups that went against us early but there were a few that went against them as well. All in all I thought the dodgy 50/50's evened out by the end.

I actually think this has been one of the better years in recent memory when it comes to us not being screwed by the umps.

The frees were kind of even 25 to 21 in favour of the toast. The umps were pretty inconsistent and the toast always get an armchair ride. They have been consistently in the top 3 or 4 for free kicks for the last 5 years though I'm buggered if I know why.

umpires ruin so many contests - they pay soft kicks and let blatant ones go....i thought we were hammered by the umps today (but admit I am extremely biased in this regard) :-)

in the end the umps are complete dipsh!ts but Freo won because they wanted it more when the game was on the line

Umpires were bad both ways. That bald one (Nicholls?) is shocking.

I think he did the sirengate game.

He did, I watched the game with a Sydney supporter who was gob smacked at the run they got.

I said it happens every derby for ages and only now am i believed.

It has never really mattered and it still doesn't.

It is only percentage. :)

I thought the umpiring was alright. Let a lot of little stuff go which was good for a physical game. Nothing called that was game changing.

And what were you doing sitting anywhere near an eagles turkey?
You can get diseases from that sort of thing.
Ladies, gents, eagles supporters - just look at the last few minutes and tell me how Murphy didn't get a free in front of goal?
I rests me case sez he.

Agreed, the umpiring was bewildering for both teams not just ours.
Good thing was it was consistently bad for both sides so I guess no favour there.

I thought early on there were some incredibly bullshit calls against us. I mean McPharlin holding the ball when it was pinged to him. Give me a break. Grover called for holding the ball after being tackled pretty well over the line, yeah what the **** is that. As for Suban being pinged for deliberate, how the **** is he supposed to pick the ball up when it's pretty well on the line and then get up without stepping out. Ah well, we won, the umpires were at times their usual dipshitting selves but they did let it go when the game got harder and tougher which was nice to see

Yea i thought some of the decisions (for both teams) were disgusting... so many obvious free's not payed but they called some tought ones.

Both teams were rooted in regards to umpires and although it "evens out" it still should not happen in the AFL. Its just not good enough.

ROFL. I thought they were shocking for us personally but I spose your gonna get that. Something needs to be done about the umpiring because this year it has been absolutely pathetic. Those white maggots have a fairly simple job imo. Maybe theres too much emphasis on them running 25kms a match and not enough on them making the right call. You look at other sports like Football, League and Union and you see blokes that are 40/50 years old, have been involved in the game for 30 odd years and know what they are doing. I know our field is a lot larger but **** me common sense has to provale surely.

You know Sam Newmans argument about umpires having massive ego's is probably plausible in some respects. I mean who the **** wants to be an umpire? You are hated by everyone and you are constantly telling people what to do. Good umpires need to be praised week in week out with some kind of medal. Anything to raise the profile of being an actual umpire cause the batch at the moment are a bunch of blind, useless *****.

No they need to get paid an amount that can turn them into professional umpires instead of it being their second job. Credit goes to Nick Maxwell for bringing this up.

Well I would have mentioned this also if I knew it wasn't happening already? Thats amazing and a real piss poor effort by the AFL.

Yep with all the money the AFL get for rights etc there is no excuse for them to not get a half decent pay just good enough to make it a permanent position and a reason for junior umpires to want to continue umpiring an possibly make it there career.

Although the way they umpire currently with so much inconsistancy not just every week but we get terrible inconsistancy 5mins later in the same games. They prob dont deserve to get more money.

In the 1st quarter we were getting absolutely no frees an our midfielders were getting tackled off the ball and held trying to get to it right infront of them an no frees.
Then eagles were gettin some soft ones.
In the 2nd qtr umpiring wasnt as biased but still not good.
Think they must of seen the free kicks for eagles compared to for us at halftime and decided to try an even things up abit in the 3rd.
4th i cant really remember how umps went i was too pumped enjoying the game an the way we were playing.

The main problem isnt the umpires its the morons controlling them thats ruining our game.
Making them try to pay everything by the book an not taking into context if it really had any effect on the play.

Nah the Suban deliberate was a good call, he made it so obvious.

I agree, all Suban had to do was 'pretend' to play on, step back (out of play) and 'attempt' to hand ball to Duffield (I think) who was right there ... it just looked bad and the umps called it. Hopefully Suban learnt from it and that's it.

The umpiring was average but both ways I thought. But there was a shocker with Murphy in the third I think right in the goal square. It was critical because we were making a run and a half at the time and it not only cost us a goal, it sailed up the other end and the weavels got a rare 2nd half goal. It's the only time I remember totally loosing it a the umps - though there were other moments of frustration of course.
