I know its only early days but I liked what i saw here.

Very polished, excellent hands, great kick, good size for a midfielder and pacy.

Would have kicked a goal but siren beat him.

I'm excited

I like the way the club is taking their time with him similar to the way they introduced Brad Johnson to the senior list during his first season.
He was an excellent choice tall, quick and skillful and although he needs another season to develop he will be a very good player for us over the longer term.
They should just run him off the bench for the balance of the season which will give him just enough experience to tackle next season with a bit more confidence. A good pre-season with the weights and general fitness will set him up for a good second season.

His kicking is a feature along with his decision making skills.

Introducing him this week was good cos it took the focus off him. His brother has been playing well. Straight swap for Bartlett?

.

I also liked his preparedness to tackle.

All the run guns that played on Sunday plus Gilbee should stay in for the rest of the year. I know there is still some hope of making the finals but being realistic I do not think we will get there and giving us the best chance for next year should be the priority now. Until Sunday the only side above us on the ladder we have beaten was Geelong ( I know we beat Freo but everybody does that over here). So the chanes of making the finals are not good.

Forget about form for the rest of the year just give Power and the others game time to add to their development.

I have watched Sam at training and I think that he has quicker hands than Simon Atkins. I have never seen anyone so quick to swoop on a loose ball and feed it out. This kid is gonna be big.

I loved the way he took his time to straighten up and line the sticks up when he got the ball on sunday. Pity the siren beat him.

Great long term value for the 10th draft pick. I had him marked as a top 5 and was very surprised he last that long. It hepled that the Kangas and Dees wanted key position types and Geelong wanted their local lad so I suppose we hit the jackpot with Sammy.

The Age are continuing their focus on Sam Power first season and there is another article on him in the Real Footy website.
Suggest that if anyone is interested it is worth a read.

Onto an unrelated matter, Nick Bruton injured his shoulder and is out for 2 to 3 weeks. Not having much luck with injuries is young Nick and it is disappointing that he has not been able to string enough games together. For a player who didn't play a lot of junior football next season shapes as a very important year for him.

Think everyone has summed it up quite beautifully. Power and McMahon are super gets for us.

I'd like to see Power play the half back role that Murphy and previous to him Brownie played. With that I'd move Murphy into the centre and give us some class and serious creativity where we need it. Murphy and West together would be awesome with some hardness from Robbins and Hahn. Power mopping up from half back and directing to McMahon, Johnno and co is enough to make me go very warm and fuzzy inside :) .

I'm excited too Chops, the fact that we got him at number 10 is amazing. It must have been a strong draft. Just like Murph seems to have time and his disposal looks efficient.
Hopefully more ground time this week.

I'd expect the Eagles to put him under a little physical pressure today.

I saw this topic and thought I may aswell comment on the kid. Sam Power is going to be one excellent player. I want him up in Brisbane. Keating and a draft pick for him or Keating and Notting for him. Both will be valuable players for you.

I agree with Doc that Power will slip into the half back role where Wallace likes to bring his type through ala Brown and Murf.If Murphy can increase his strength to the point where he is able to hold his body over the ball a little better(he is starting to do this) and move into the midfield it will possibly allow us to give Browny alot more time up forward which is a thought that would scare alot of other teams.

Special Bruce as much as I rate Power I would jump at getting Notting and Keating for him.Notting is one of my all time favourites.:)

Before the start of the season a Keating/Notting for the 10th pick
would have been a great offer however, I am not sure it would get up now.
Are you after Sam so that you can keep Luke or are you just sold on him as a player regardless of what Luke does ?

I am surprised at the high value placed on Keating. I think he is a good player but I would not rate him higher than that. I see that the Doctor rates him very highly too and as I think you are both good judges I wonder what I am missing here. I don't recall seeing any game turning performances from him just good steady contributions.

While I also think Notting is a very good player I would not trade Power for him even with Keating thrown in. IMO we would be giving away a potential star for two (very) good players. Sort of like sacrificing a knight and a bishop for a queen (its a game Rocco not a medieval crusade, i will explain it later). I know Power is not in the elite class yet but maybe.

I guess you are coming from the bird in the hand angle. Is that how you see it?

In Power you have a player who has the potential to be very good but we have 4 or 5 similar players.Notting is the type of player we dont have and could be anything. He has absolutely everything.I dont rate Keating all that highly anymore but did once upon a time due to the fact he destroyed us a couple of times before all his injuries came back.

I don't rate Notting at all.

Does nothing especially well. Not particually big, not particually quick, not particually well skilled. Doesn't get big numbers.

Why on earth would you rate him so highly?

Notting is a match winner. He is a very good player, he has just had trouble this year. How does a Shane Morrison sound? He can play CHF or CHB and is excellent in both positions. He is young and has the talent. We will see how he goes against you this weekend.

Shane Morrison & Tim Notting for Power?

It is not a trade that would be given serious consideration at all.
Perhaps before the draft for the 10th pick it may well have been a consideration however, landing a player that should have been taken in the first five with our 10th pick would squash any thoughts.
Whilst I rate Notting he will only ever be a good player and Power
can be a lot better value for our team over the long haul.
Keating is not a player I rate too highly and is decent at best.
Morrison was a great junior player who has not yet had enough chances with such a good team.

I think the club would keep Sam Power unless a better offer came along than Notting and Keating.
