Roast Three consecutive 6 day breaks

Part of the issue though is this form of 'equalisation' has never been explicit by the AFL.
Lol at the idea that the AFL will be open and fair. You will always have to judge them on what they do, not what they say.

They will just tell you what they think they can get away with.

COLA anyone?

Most coaches, including our coach, say six day breaks are not really an issue.

This exactly. Five day breaks traveling interstate yeah ok maybe slightly.. But six day breaks compared to seven being a subject of excuse for a loss? C'mon that's just rubbish. If the players and the club aren't professional enough to recover the bruises and hits from six days earlier, then there's something wrong.

How big an issue was it for us in 2007-2011?

The reality is, the better team usually wins, these six day break excuses are petty horse shit

I think 6 day breaks aren't a problem but CONSECUTIVE 6 day breaks might be, and it also depends on who we are playing in that sequence. If we play, say, the Hawks and Freo in that 3-4 week period, I'd say that the boys will be pretty much stuffed because of all the off-ball bashing that happens. If we play a fast team like maybe Port or North, then the boys will be leg-weary. I don't see why, if they are determined to give us 2x6 day breaks in a row, the AFL can't give us teams closer to the bottom of the ladder (Melbourne, anyone?) in the middle of that draw.

Mainly because the top six only play the bottom six once and the other top five twice (or so they say). So it is more likely (just the random odds if you like) that the six day jobs will include more top and rising sides than easybeats.

Having the Easter Monday - stand alone game v Hawks. Adds an automatic extra 6 day break each year, and if you want Saturday and Friday night games as well that makes one "string" of consecutive 6 day breaks almost inevitable. Going into this string with a bye under the belt should help.

The Bullies / Saints/ Melb who enjoy (?) Sunday arvo after sunday arvo, get fewer 6 day breaks.

Completely unnecessary to do 3 6 day breaks in a row though

Hawthorn and Geelong could both have been scheduled the bye in Round 8

I can understand they might give a few teams two consecutive six day breaks at some point

Note that the Bullies/Saints/Mel often play Sundays, so when they do play on Saturday it's usually against a team that's had 1 or 2 days extra rest in advance

When they play on a Saturday or even a Sunday??? ..... Good point its not so simple.

If you look carefully at Essendons 2013 fixture I think there's only one week where they actually had a shorter break than their opponent

I've only looked at a couple of fixtures from other clubs very briefly. If we try and work out what the AFL is up to with their FIXturing, it'll do our collective heads in. I hadn't seen that re Essendscum but it's interesting to know.

You sound very astute. Welcome, thoughtful, well researched discussion.
But do you think you could change your avatar just while you're over here?
I'm eating.
Thanks
