Don't see why he would be ineligible. If he's the best player next week, he wins the medal.

Good point and for that reason I hope that he would be. But having never been witness to a drawn GF in my lifetime I wouldn't have a clue.

Either player would have been a deserving winner.

Those two marks by Goddard were brilliant and he was instrumental in the second half, though he burnt the ball at times.

Hayes was phenomenal all game, winning the contested ball and tackling around the packs. Kicked a 'spiritual captain's' goal when it looked beyond him.

I agree... Goddard did play a more influential game in the second half and seemed to be every where.
Phew.. I thought I was the only one who thought Goddard deserved the Norm Smith. Hayes played a great game but Goddard did it at both ends of the ground and almost dragged St Kilda over the line.

Tipped Hayes to win the Norm Smith in my preseason predictions. Second year in a row I have it right thanks to Chappy last year.

Happy he won it so I can continue to boast foresight well beyond my real capabilities.:D

Both play the sort of footy I love to watch. Gwilt was outstanding as was Fisher. For a long time it was the battle of the backlines - the 2 best in the business. What a game, what a result, what a sport. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

they tend to give the norm smith to a 4 quarter player and you'd think Hayes was just a little more consistent over the whole game than Goddard. Having said that Goddard was awesome and would have been a deserving winner.

Agreed, thought Goddard was very good when they needed someone to get them back in the game. Would have been happy for him to win it too but had a vested interest in Hayes getting the gong.

The good part is, they get another chance next week to settle the dispute once and for all.:)

Voting for the Norm Smith Medal

Brad Scott (North Melbourne FC, chairman) - Brendon Goddard (St Kilda), Dale Thomas (Collingwood), Lenny Hayes (St Kilda).

Matthew Lloyd (SEN 1116) - Lenny Hayes (St Kilda), Brendon Goddard (St Kilda), Dale Thomas (Collingwood).

Chris Grant (ABC) - Lenny Hayes (St Kilda), Nick Maxwell (Collingwood), Brendon Goddard (St Kilda).

Michael Gleeson (The Age) - Lenny Hayes (St Kilda), Dale Thomas (Collingwood), Brendon Goddard (St Kilda).

Steve Rielly (The Australian) - Lenny Hayes (St Kilda), Sam Fisher (St Kilda), Dale Thomas (Collingwood).

Totals
13 - Lenny Hayes, St Kilda
7 - Brendon Goddard, St Kilda
6 - Dale Thomas, Collingwood
2 - Sam Fisher, St Kilda
2 - Nick Maxwell, Collingwood

No way known that Thomas was just one vote off equalling Goddard's game.

BG was everywhere like Koutoufides in that preliminary final.

I though Goddard was best over the 4 quarters, but his second half was superb, but Lenny is a worth winner, he is a warrior that guy.
What a herculian effort by St Kilda they were bloody awsome, I reckon they will do it next week.

Still reeling from the intensity of that match. Unbelievable.

What would they give to borrow our second ruckman in Warnock for a week?

Knockers would give them more than Koschitzke in the ruck and forwardline.

Deadset useless.

Even Gardiner was a passenger.

We should hold firm on the Jacobs trade.

They've got a handy backup in McEvoy. Should be back in next week though with Gardiner retiring, I'm not sure they'd be overly excited with only Stanley as genuine backup. Kosi can pinch hit but to little effect.

Happy with Hayes winning the Norm Smith because of the $50 I had on him, but Goddard would've been a worthy winner.

Well, you're a St Kilda supporter so you should be. :p
