It seems Eddie and the other London junketeers are having a two hour footy show from 9:30 - 11:30 tonight. This means viewers will miss the first hour and a half of tennis coverage, particuarly annoying considering Pat Rafter, in what could very well be his last Wimbledon, is first up on court one. I have Foxtel which has coverage from 9pm but I don't think they have rights to the first few courts so it could mean we miss the majority of that match.

I think something needs to be done about free to air networks and their coverage of various sporting events. It is pretty ridiculous when they buy the rights to these events and then don't end up showing parts of them. Ch 7 does it by buying rights to both rugby internationals and AFL, and will do it again by showing their prime time soapies rather than the first session of the upcoming Ashes tests. With anti-syphoning legislation there is only so much pay tv can do and they still don't have coverage in a lot of areas.

Very annoying

Totally with you on this one Elt....probably the thing that annoys me more than anything else is poor coverage of sporting events...and unfortunately 7 & 9 seem to be having a contest at who is worse.

Recent examples include:
- Collingwood's game on delay this week
- Melbourne's game not even been shown this week
- Seven not showing the 1st session of the Ashes
- 9's absolutely abysmal F1 coverage
- Poor coverage of Melbourne Storm games
- Pathetic coverage of AFL for Brisbane and Sydney viewers
- Seven's disgraceful efforts with soccer

I could go on and on, but really unless you get Foxtel you get screwed with sporting telecasts - and this is compounded by the Ashes and footy currently been shown on Optus.

For lucky people like me who don't have a cable in their street (something to do with digital TV  ) it's very frustrating. Looks like next year I'll just have to fork out the extra money for a satellite if I want to see 3 games of AFL a week :(

I love the tennis but I probably enjoy watching the Footy Show more, so I'm happy with the decision. Maybe they could have started the show an hour early this week. Another good solution might have been if Nine allowed Foxtel to show the action from the show courts until their coverage started.

But the Footy Show is on for more than half the year, Wimbledon is only on for two weeks of year so it should be the main priority.
But well said Golden Hawk. Free to air coverage is becoming a joke. I am lucky enough to have Foxtel but not everyone does and the sport on free to air should be better.

There can be ways to still see the Rafter game.

Whos not to say that Channel 9 will show the whole Rafter match after the Footy Show on a delayed telecast (like the grand prix's). Im pretty sure they would show Rafters whole match and it wouldnt surprise me if we get to see the whole match tonight as soon as the tennis telecast begins.

You should try living in Darwin! lol

Our coverage of everything is up the friggin ringers.

Its getting better though.

:p

AHHH pay tv, who could live wihtout it

Personally i watched the footy show, and then started watching Rafters match. It's looking pretty tight. He took the first set and lost the second, and battling hard for the third

On another note did anyone see what Dosedel had on. It was a shirt with a flap in the back, for air i guess. Weird never seen one before, but a good idea.

Things will get worse further down the track guys...

I may be wrong on this, but I am almost sure that in NZ and many other countries, there is NO SPORT A T A L L ON FREE TO AIR, or very very little....its all on pay tv.

Golden Hawk you are so right, the only one I disagree with you on is the Lions vs. Wallabies Test...that definately should have priority over the Collingwood Game, because its such a significant event internationally and is bringing in thousands of tourists and dollars to the country....also its only held every 12 years.

Colllingwood supporters at least have the choice of watching it in delay, travelling to S.A. (its not too far, is a little inconvenient though) and of course listening to it on radio.....IMO they should not have too much to gripe about, but I can understand that they will.

What can be done about all this, we have to remember many more people dislike sport than probably like sport and would rather watch movies, soapies, or whatever, so we are probably in the minority.!

I agree...
I love watching big Rugby UNION (not league!) international games. And i am looking forward to the match.

The Collingwood game will be shown right after it at 9:00pm on PRIME. So, its delayed but im not complaining. Two good matches staright after each other.

Absolutely right Nick! Being an ex-Gold Coaster myself...PRIME is great. Actually living on the Gold Coast, you get a pretty good deal when it comes to Aussie Rules. Actually it's good most of the time...even when it comes to cricket (ie. when games are played at the Gabba).

Mate...i miss home. But i know if i went back...i'd miss the chance to see my team run out every week. Cannot stand watching games on TV, like i used to.

Which school did/do you go to?

All my mates up there are Lions supporters (ie. don't know f*ck). Didn't get a chance to give them sh!t this year :(

footy show

The Footy Show actually got its biggest audience of the year on Thursday with something like 650,000 viewers at peak. Big Brother struggled this week with about 250,000. So all they were doing was trying to get back the ratings just like they did with the Schwarz pie incident.
