Tigers big on player retention

In 12 months in reassessing the results of this free agency period I reckon Yarran will turn out to be the pick of the bunch, Bennell will end up with Sylvia, Treloar is about Collingwoods 5th best mid after Pendles, Swan, Sidebottom and Taylor .. they plugged a gap that was not there, regardless he will be useful but not significant. Carlisle is an idiot, another Bennell but more seedy ... he trashed his old club whilst on the ground and has trashed his new club before even playing a game.

Yarran has at least the ability of any one of them ... and he is ours .. and he wants to be a Tiger ... he will be a gun for us.

and for those who keep whinging about the 3 lost finals in 3 years .. why are you here? Go sob in some corner and stop annoying us real Richmond supporters ... we don't give a shit about your whiny opinions ... "f off"

This. he wont improve them, their biggest problems are their lack of experienced big bodied defenders and a functioning forward line. **** off with Howe - spud of the highest order, their best forward was Moore who they got through F/S so were lucky to get

Why would I believe a foul mouthed bloke whose just got home from the Friday night swill ?
Yarran behaved just as poorly as Carlisle IMO. He sulked all year and refused to commit himself to his employer although he was on $450k.
Finally what's wrong with demanding for more than three EF losses and improving the list to actually surpass this embarrassing feat?
Really what any genuine RFC supporter should be demanding.

Being gullible and taking every line the club feeds you does not make you a real Richmond supporter, it just makes you a fool with no ability to think for yourself. You are also kidding yourself badly if you think Treloar wasn't a major need for Collingwood, a classy inside mid with pace and size in a midfield that struggles to win the pill? Er no Taylor will not be a better player than him, yesterday, today or tomorrow. Deluding yourself badly, lol.

Well, one article to say "we're shit because we lost another final" would be a start.

I think it's a bit of a balance thing tugga. Most of the public comment about these loses from the club have been focused on the disappointment of these loses & how the club wants to get better. I'm not sure more can be done (outside of recruitment/drafting/development/retention/delisting) to address this issue?

The team has (I think) gotten younger under Dimma each season. With that in mind I'd want the focus on working harder/determination to improve. Not a focus on failure (with articles). Sure take responsibility for things as a group/club. But always with a positive/balanced view to the future. Not sure that they can do any more?

But what would you suggest specifically?

Next year I reckon we should be really aggressive and trade out Reiwoldt, Martin, Vickery, Vlastuin and our next two first round draft picks for, I don't know, some stars or something and pay them all $800,000 per year.
Simples.

You Evil genius...........:p

Everyone, we're all in it together! :p
In reality, if we succeed then "Blind Freddy" could see this was the way to go, if we fail then sack everyone.

Why wait? Avoid the rush & sack everyone sooner rather than later.....then we can start our in-depth recruitment process, you know get ahead of the pack. Genius!! Begin coach search through the off season, when know one else is...sometimes I amaze myself, with my cleverness:eek::p

Someone post a link to that song , "everyone's a Dj "? That's what I keep hearing in my head...

Yep.

Make no mistake, if we'd offered Treloar $10,000,000 per year and 12 years he'd be in Yellow and Black right now. Dan and Blair are too scared to take a risk.:mad:

Cheapscape.....:p..call that a serious offer? Tell him he's dreamin.....o_O

Its called ignore people!

My ignore button is growing before my eye's. After I stop smacking myself with my rubber mallet. I may just smash the button a few times. But you know I'm starting to enjoy hitting myself in the head....Is that a strange thing to say???o_O.......:p

I see everyone is still trying to push shit uphill.
You're all suckers for punishment.

Sticks & stone's may break my bones, but whips & chains excite me???:p

you,re being a bit cheeky here.if we can't take our admin and FD seriously then who do we put our faith and trust in?Again i didn't come up with the notion of chasing a gun with our huge war chest, but you struggle to cohere this. The club had two trade periods where they could have had a go based on 06/14 report, but they came up short twice.Really why did they bother wasting their time on Danger?A simple phone call to the manager surely would have been sufficient. Still i believe he was still being shopped around as we wouldn't have spent so much time on him.
Forget player retention bc thats the easiest job at PRO Otherwise we wouldn't be the third rated club at retaining players. We've lost 3 players in 30 years and they're bragging about this fact.
It reeks of massive incompetence to quote this as a moral victory for 2015 as it doesn't require a job description let alone a mention. What the rfc is not capable of doing is luring a gun to the club. Our lat was Nathan Brown and heavens knows before that. ROWLINGS ???This is the real issue and the club hides behind embarrassingly testicle tightening excuses after each year of failure. And you're commending them for achieving nothing.
We will now go into 2016 under staffed on the field again to probably come up with similar results.Next year is going to be tough for us as clubs below as strengthed their lists .People on here a delusional if they think Yazza is the messiah. We need guys with physical presence not another possum to the PRO Colony.I damn hope i'm wrong ,but OLD Ben Clifton at Coburg left a 50c hole in him until he was forced to play in the midfield where he squibbed every contest and Vendetti walked passed him on 4 occasions as if he wasn't there.
Yarran wasn't cheap so don't exaggerate and if he's a massive flop then we will have another Shaun Hampson on our list for 3 years.Townsend was cheap and i don't mind him on the list.

After 30 years of player retention i can really see how many flags it's delivered:$.Why do you think KAC continues to add players to his list? What is their record now 9 flags in 33 years or 4 in the last 7 years;)?

I too have had enough of trying to bang heads with some that won't listen. Pointless!:rolleyes::thumbsdown:
Great post every year for the last god knows how many it is literally the same debates that go on. You would think some would actually learn something from them but alas no.

That's why it's been 30+years. They over value the list even the A graders and before they realise they're rewinding back into another rebuild
There was rumblings going around at Coburg when Johnson was skipper that the RFC refuses to pay any other player more than the skipper. So this appears to fit in with the player /retention argument about getting quality versus retaining and paying overs for average over rated players . There was also another recently retired skipper who must have went through the same system.
They should build a resort down at PRO bc it's becoming a nice cushy holiday place

They needed him so bad luck to them
I'm looking at their overall trades. They got rid of Toumpas and A pile of other rubbish so they still had a good trade week .
in a weak draft predicted by many they over achieved and melksham is no mug IMO
When was the last time the Rfc traded out a top 5 pick after such a short space of time. Yes Melbourne got the Toumpas pick wrong, instead of making the mistake worse by hanging on and hoping, they traded him out while he still had value. Yet people deride them for doing so.
I suppose if in the same boat with the same player they would prefer we retain the player which is exactly the type of thing our club does and far too many demand..We Usually keep blokes like Toumpas for 6 or 8 years and then just delist them for nothing. Good on the dees for making what must have been a hard call basically admitting they got a very valuable pick wrong. At least they got something back out of it all.

Lol look at us hanging onto a bloke like Dea for god knows how long not prepared to cut our losses and move on. This happens with far too many.
We do have players we could trade to sweeten deals to get top players here but it seems we are not prepared to make a call. A good trade is usually a trade that works for both clubs but it seems we are paralysed by what ifs.
As i stated before there are two sides to the retention debate and in fairness we have managed to hang onto our top players which is just one side of it all, but as TI says it really should not have been a hard thing to do.
Finally in regards the war chest. What bunkum who gives a toss what you call it. The simple fact is we made a player like Martin take less than he wanted and nearly lost him, why? so we could get a top player to the club and it still has not happened. Clearly we are having problems getting really good players to commit to us.
Then theres another angle. Take Astbury. He has a very average 30yo bloke in Chaplin keeping him out of the side and in essence would not commit to Brisbane a team he was guaranteed a game. Why would you not go where you can play.At Brisbane he will have to perform at Richmond he knows hes safe with out having to do a thing.

Personally i dont give a stuff about who we get its about continually improving on all the players we have, which has little to do with our top players.Of course we want to hang onto them and add to them.
Unfortunately even with our lesser players we are reluctant to offer them for trade or even cut em. I would have been happy to land a bloke like Talia to replace Chaplin or even Henderson or SJ as a free agent to improve the fwd line, because we need to improve in most areas if we want to get better.

Yep the club deserves criticism in this area and at the same time it should be patted on the back for getting some pretty basic things right.

Our Toumpas is Reece Conca
He is in paradise at Richmond . He knows he can threaten them I will go back to the West and they will open up the cheque book
The guy is a dud, but bc Casino got him at six he must be good. How many games did Tambling play 100plus , but we all knew from day one at Coburg that lance franklin was the missed opportunity .the RFC continued to play him in the expectation that he would undergo metamorphosis into Gary Ablett junior
Casino and Blair really need to look for jobs at Visy as they're cancers.

We tried your approach in the 80's

How well did that work out for us then??

It's 2015 hello wake up. What players of significance apart from the three already mentioned have we lost ?
We just have had a poor drafter and recruiter with coaches for the last 15 years . Go and look at the list I posted earlier.
What cost us under Frawley is we gave away picks for retreads bc we had no money. Wallets era cost us bc they picked poorly which they're still doing and they're now still roping up with retreads bc they cannot develop the latter picks
This is why the list peaked three years ago as its foundation is still wallets famous seven we no super talent added
We are not the same as 82 as this peanut gallery admin has had massive financial supporter backing
