What does everyone think will be the areas that Terry will target in the upcoming draft?, assuming we stay as we are now and get the 7th pick? Will a decent KPP like Thorp or Hansen fall for us or do we have look elsewhere?

Have to look elsewhere!! They wont fall that far and there is no real point drafting the second string of KPP. We dont absolutely need forwards and drafting backmen with early picks is a waste. Get an awesome midfielder like selwood if avaliable. We want the best midfield around in 2 or 3 years.

We've already got the best young midfielder around and thats Brett Deledio.
So just because two KPP might be gone by our pick every other one is just second string???
We need a good KPP that can play back or forward.

i dont think there is any chance that someone such as hansen or gumbleton would slip down to us, however thorp or sellar may if we are lucky. would love to get thorp!

selwood may available and i rate him very highly and he fits the mould very well of what we need.

if these 3 players go in the top 6 (along with Gibbs, Hansen and Gumbleton) would wallace look at another super-quick outside midfielder such as l.jetta?
another inside midfielder such as t.hislop?
or another tall KPP player such as j.riewoldt or even m.leunberger?

Nobody knows what Terry is going to do but Terry himself. Last year nobody saw him picking up JON (a player i still have my doubts over).

He will simply pick a player that checks off all his criteria.

I agree picking up JON was random but i like the look of him, looks very very quick if his shoulder is better id like to see him run in the Grand Final sprint could be deledio and JON back to back and better still deledio and raines back to back for NAB

With this draft i say a key Backman is our number 1 priority but if we know that we can get a polak or someone then i saw risk it and go with that and then hopefully pick up another gun midfielder selwood would be nice or even that Jetta guy you could play him and JON on either wing and with Deledio, Foley, White and even tambling rotating through the middle thats some serious leg speed and meyer forgot about him.

In todays game of football pace is very valuble and Richmond have alot of it :thumbsu:

Darfting a defender with a top draft pick is a waste. You can find a good defender lower in the draft, who will do his job. You can teach them, you cant teach what Lids and Bling do without thinking. Especially in an attacking sense. Just look at Rutten, rookie draft pick. So was Mal michael. Even Thrusfields came off the rookie list.

Hansen is the exception as a defender but thats because he is very versitile and from all reports he will be a similar defender to Bowden or Chad Corns. Who reads the play well and will turn defence into attack with ease.

We may have one of the best midfielders in the comp in lids. But gee it would be nice to pick up someone like selwood who will take some of the opposition focus off lids. It seems to work for west coast. Judd and kerr held to 14 possies, Braun racks up about 35, cousins 30 odd and Cox 30 odd. A brilliant midfield with depth protects the defense and gives our forwards more opportunity.

Im not saying dont draft Thorp if he falls or even a riewoldt but dont go that way because it seems we need to make a backmen. That can be done with clever drafting later on. Top draft picks are for players who will win you games.

IMO, if someone like Sellar or Riewoldt reaches us, we should take them. Sellar is top 6 and Riewoldt is a gamebreaker, has starred in the VFL and had a great u-18 champs.

Much will ride on the draft camp, but with our center stocks full of talent, we should go for a KPP forward. Besides Hughes, Schulz and Patterson, the tall forward section is a little lacking.

If getting thumped in the middle tonight by the team with the worst midfield in the comp doesn't convince people that the midfield is still our biggest weakness, nothing will.

Crumden is correct, these types of performances from our midfielders will be more than enough reason for Wallace to go another midfielder with our first pick- therefore the fact we are getting smashed in centre clearances will bring Hislop right into contention and if he goes for an outside midfielder- then clinton benjamin comes right into contention as well. I reckon alot of peolpe will be disappointed come draft day about not taking a KPP with the first pick but unless a Thorp or Sellar falls down the list, then I reckon he'll pick a midfielder.

Yes. If we cant get a quality tall, I want Selwood. Ill absolutely murder TW if he picks Jetta or someone similar.

Rubbish. The JON selection was obvious.

This year is looking much tougher. The guys we would want Hansen, Gumbelton, Thorp, Gibbs will be gone.

Jetta is rubbish. Not nearly as quick or as skilled as claimed. Hardly need a soft forward pocket. Selwood is like Pettifer - not overly tough, doesn't win his own footy, lacks genuine pace and skills are good not great. Selwood would be a safe pick but we may look elsewhere. Reiwoldt dosen't look a genuine KP player to me - more a Pat Bowden or Andy Kellaway and we'd prefer to give those jobs to tall midfielders like JON.

The player we need is Tom Hislop but he isn't the sort that Wallace normally recruits. With Coughlan struggling to play enough games we need another extractor.

I think we are probably still looking at a batch of players.

Leunberger, Selwood, Sellar, Proud, O'Keefe, Pettard, Hawksley. Tough call this year but Daniel O'Keefe and James Hawksley would be the sort of gutsy calls that Miller and Wallace like to make.

Any chance with Reiwoldts recent form that Hawthorn, Brisbane, Kangaroos or Geelong may take him? Same with Leuenberger? Is there any chance Thorp could slip to us ?

Every chance Thorp could slip, and slip a long-way. He is going to be a risky pick for whoever takes him.

He is compared to Pavlich because he looks as good a ruck-rover as a forward. As a forward his best strenght (a bit like Scott Lucas) is roaming around, taking uncontested marks and them playing on immediatly. Really hits the ground running. That sort of stuff would really appeal to us.

On the other hand there have been plenty of those Ruck-Rover / CHF types who have ended up caught in no-mans land. Danny Jacobs, Murray Vance are two that come to mind.

Similar player to Matthew Bate at Melbourne or Cameron Ling. Is he a big midfielder or a smallish key-position player? No way of knowing for 4-5 years, so it is a gamble.

But are we in a comfortable enough position to take that gamble? If its out of Thorp or a flashy type (Collard, Proud etc) then id say the risk would be worth it. If Selwood is unable to get first hands on the ball consistantly as you say, I can't see us using our first pick on a small midfielder.

Stop using our board to speak to Weaver arseh*le :p

I'll be doing whatever I want, Tom. ;)

In all seriousness, I really liked the mock-draft he did last year and I was wondering what he thought of Sellar as he seems to be a big fan of the KPP types (e.g putting Kennedy at 1 in that mini-draft :thumbsu: ).

What's your opinion on Sellar, Weaver? Do you feel he'll find himself in the ruck or will he be moulded into a forward down the track?

Why don't you ask Bentleigh? He's our resident draft expert. Don't you know it's more important to regurgitate other peoples' opinions (as fact) than to actually go to the games?

I like Hawkesly as a player, but gee there gonna need some serious balls to call his name out with our first pick. Up till now Id thought a late 2nd round early 3rd round for Hawkesly. But who knows. I wouldnt rule out Richmond putting up 2 very good players to get an early pick.

Who do we have to put up??

Cogs is about it and he is coming back from a knee reco. Maybe krak but he wouldnt be worth much.

No one will want Tiva, Rodan, chaffey.

Dont want to say at this stage, its totally unnecessary, we are near the end of the season and clubs who miss the eight will move into informal discussions over the next couple of weeks.

Anyone wanna give an appraisal of Jarryd Morton from WA as a pick, about 190cm, good weight...could become a very decent big midfielder who could pinch hit at CHB.

Is that Mitch Mortons little brother??? I though he wasnt available until next year because WC wont be able to get him F/S

Guys go to the draft night, was excellent last year Greg and Frank gave very good assessments of potential recruits, their pro's and con's and what we as a club would be looking out for.

Their video footage of young Travis Casserly was great and you could see why we drafted him, great intiative for the club that will be become a must on the tigers calender.
