With the appointment of Terry Wallace the coach for the next 5 years there will be a change in our on field leadership as I posted in a previous thread WALLACE A DONE DEAL, my good friend (source) tells me that Kane Johnson will be the captain and Nathan Brown Vice captain.

What are your (Tiger fans) thoughts on these 2 as our leaders on the field?

IMO this is a good choice. :)

I think Johnson would be the logical choice... although I'd like to see Brown & COughlan both share the vice captaincy.

If Coughlan had a top 2004 I think he would be primed for the job... but too much pressure on the guy to come back and be good... let alone come back and be good with the captaincy over his head.

I'd have Johnson as captain, almost filling the role as an interim captain. Cogs has to be vice, simply gaining experience until he takes the role over in 2 years time. He should be and hopefully will be a long term leader for us.

I don't think we have too many other choices although I feel johnno would be a good catain. Has been a good player for us and i dont think cogs is quite ready.

This will cause a stir but my choice for captain next year is JOEL BOWDEN.

Coughlan is not ready yet and Johnson & Brown (as good as they are) have not been there 5 minutes.

The added responsibility might just push him into the elite as a player.

Now that Wallace is coach for 5 years, we are guarenteed Nathan Brown will be with us for 5 years.

Make him captain. Cogs vice and groomed as the next captain.

If the captain is changed then I would go for Kane Johnson with 2 vice captains being Brown and Bowden.

There is no way I would consider Coughlan for Captain or even Vice Captain right now, he has a major injury where no one knows just how long it's going to take for him to recover fully from and you need players who are captains and Vice Captains capable of playing 22 rounds of football. No good picking a captain or Vice Captain that sits in the stands for most of the season.

Captaincy should rotate every 12 months
over 3 years

2005 - Brown
2006 - Cogs.
2007 - One of the kids (Hartigan,Moore,Tuck,Jackson....etc,the most outstanding)
Will give the kids a lot to work forward to.

Best way to form a leadership group is share the leadership i rekkon, also it leaves no room for egos.

I get the impression that Johhno is already the captain if not in name then in action. He seems to do the most talking out on the field. He's the one at the bottom of the packs constantly. He's the one leading by example, always willing to run to the next contest.Browny might be flashier but Johnno is exactly the sort of workman you need to lead by example.

Campbell has been a disgrace this year IMO.Just last week I'm sure you all saw him delay a few nice attacks we were developing.I used to be a fan of Campbell's but he really lost me earlier in the season during the Adelaide game.He looked like an old man unwilling to put his neck on the line when it was needed. As far as I 'm concerned seeing that he has 1 more year on his contract he can spend it as a specialist forward pocket.

Johnno,Coughlan,Bowden,Newman and Browny can be our leaders to take us forward.

Don`t know about that one oxx.

Something that has really put a hook in me was an interview G Lyon had with Akermanis a few weeks ago . Aker was talking about Voss and the way he captained . He said that Voss pretty well demanded that his team - mates follow his example , and we all know how hard at the pill he is .

No wonder they have won three in a row .

I agree in rotating when there is no real stand out , but i am really hoping that cogs will be our "Voss" , but not yet . You look at all the great sides , Voss at Bris , Hird at Ess , Carey at nth , all great leadership . I reckon it is pretty important to have strong leadership

i like the way that Johno has responded since there has bene a sniff of a chance at the captaincy, wouldn't be too dissapointed in Browny been thrown the No 17 either...Cogs has plenty of time on his side....and should be eased back in without skipper pressures to boot

Believe it or not... l'm with you on that. If we can't trade him this year, then we never will. So...

If he stays, make him captain. Much better leader than Johnno. If we give it to Brown, we'll never get it off him. Cogs has been hindered by injury this year. If he had played the full year, we could've groomed him.

Richo... ask Rodan what he thinks of that.

Ottens is the wildcard... if only he grew some balls.

Bowden has had a great 2 month period, without doubt, but don't you think that it is a little too short a period of consistently high performances to qualify for captaincy consideration?

I mean, let's not forget that the guy isn't even in the leadership group for being so hopeless in the past and was dropped a third of the way into the year for being a dud.

Does anyone remember how Bowden used to cop it mercilessly only last year for being a dud and there were calls for him to be delisted?

My how supporters can be fickle.....

Personally I think anyone that captains the club should have at least 2 or 3 very good years behind them before they are even considered for the job.

It is such an indictment on the club that we don't have a single player that fits this category.

The closest that fits that is Johnson, but I don't think he will be a good captain, but he will be adequate considering the situation we are in.

My thoughts exactly. Not too dissimilar to the Campbell decision. Either be rid of them or give them the captaincy? Strange indeed.

I thought the same but Wallace and Brown have strong connection and long history. Cant see Wallace not playing favorites with his love child. Not that I'm too distressed either way.
