Noticed in this mornings Advertiser that Brisbane have quite a few players coming out of contract this year & by all accounts are expecting to have salary cap problems in resigning some of these players.

What are your thoughts on targeting Tim Notting by the AFC as a major trade ??

Always had an opinion of him as a player & if not for the lack of opportunities in the Lions mid-field would have more of a reputation as a gun mid-fielder than that he already has.

Notting's 26 next year.

It's time for the AFC to bite the bullet and aim younger. Short-term fixes should be avoided over the next couple of years. Richard Hadley or Jamie Charman would be preferable.

Shattock could be another option as he is an SA boy and would come a bit cheeper but looked last year to be a good player.

He's from here, isn't he?
no his not... Hadley just said he didnt want to leave and signed a new deal with them because there was a lot of interest from freo and west coast! charman would cost way way to much and there is doubt whther or not he will EVER ruck again after his knee injury

26 is old? Wouldnt he last 4 years? Is that a short term fix or a mid term fix?
Hadley is from WA so the bait could be its closer to Perth from Adelaide :D

Name: Timothy Andrew Notting
Guernsey Number:8
Date of Birth: 21st October 1978
Place of Birth: Wycheproof (Vic)
Star Sign: Libra
Height: 188cm
Weight: 87kg
Family Status: Single

Kicked two important goals against us at the end of the second or third ?? quarter at AAMI stadium this year when he got two centre clearances and bombed two goals from about 50 meters within two minutes after we had fought back to be within a couple of goals after being smashed in the first quarter.

Someone told me that he is apparently the quickest player on the Lions list but has a history of knee soreness.

I agree that he would be a handy player but also agree we need to look younger and would be better going for an SA lad.

We need a balance of medium term and long term options. Losing Stenglein creates an immediate hole from a midfield whose dominance has waned - we need someone to step into that gap immediately as well as draft for the future.

But if we get Scott Thompson (22) then we have a player who can step straight in and play for us and also someone who will be there long term.

We really shouldn't be recruiting anyone over 23.

Actually he is from NT and only came to WWT for a year or so before he got drafted to the lions. Similar situation to Hentschel
stiffy he lived in adelaide for a while before he went to the lions, his whole family live here in adelaide!! i know this because i went to school with his younger brother, they lived in the NT until he was in about yr9-10 i think;) would be ironic if we get him and lose stenglien as they are 1st cousins:p

I agree with this in principle, but if TN was to become available at a bargain basement price (unlikely) we'd be crazy not to snap him up.

As we've said before, the opportunity for a seamless transitional rebuilding phase over the next few years was lost when we blew our last couple of recruiting periods.

Now we need a top-down rebuild where kids - and only kids - will be the order of the day.

Totally agree, I would much prefer someone like Thompson who has a few years on Notting.
It will be interesting to see the fallout if Brisbane do lose this weekend (god I hope not) now that they didnt win a premiership and the bubble may of burst they may all disband and go for the money.

No +25s please.

Got a hole with Stinger ??? - dont get Thommo - then fill it with Reilly - or our first midfielder drafted - otherwise we will be having this same conversation in 3 years

Short sighted.

Tell me how many year the likes of Roo, Edwards, McLeod, and Goodwin have eft in them?????? Remember they are all 28 or older and the wear and tear is already starting to show when it comes to McLeod and Goody.

Our midfield depth is non existant. We have those 4 and then we have Reilly and Bode, then scrubbers like Shirley. A side that maked the top 5 has 8-10 players that they rotate through the midfield. We only have 4 and 6-7 max.

Recruiting Thompson would not take away Reilly's spot in the midfield because there are plenty of sports to fill.

If we get Thompson at least we get some young promising depth in our midfield. And lets get one thing straight, no matter who we draft this year we realistically cannot expect them to come in and play games next year. They might get 3-4 games if they are lucky. Its rare that a player has imidiate impact once they are drafted.

I think you mis-interpreted my post Stiffy - and I think that's because I post like I think - without much thought to Grammar and punctuation.

It should have read..

.(IF YOU'VE) Got a hole with Stinger (LEAVING)??? - (AND IF WE) dont get Thommo - then fill it with Reilly (INSTEAD OF A TRADED 25+ YEAR OLD) - or our first midfielder drafted - otherwise we will be having this same conversation in 3 years

We DO need Thommo - 22 yo first choice player.

What I don't want is gaps plugged with 26 yo Notting...or we will having this conversation again in 3 years
;)

Can anyone explain to me how Port get away without salary cap problems when their list is so strong???

What a load of horse ********!

This obsession with youth is unbelievable.

If you turn down Notting SIMPLY because he's 26 you've all got pupmkins where you're heads should be. He should not be THE priority because he's not THAT good, but if the opportunity is there (e.g. as part of the Stinger deal) and the price is fair then DO IT. What it does do is buy the Crows some time. I want the Crows to get quality players, not young ones. I agree you don't want geriatrics like Carey or Burns but 26 is not old. He could give us anywhere up to another 6 years. That's more than enough time to allow the Reilly's Schuback's Watts' etc time to develop properly without having to thrown them in the deep.

What's wrong with quality players under 26...I've heard they exist too.

Sure I don't think Brisbane will take Shirley for Notting - but seriously I wouldn't offer much more - Personally I'd rather draft a kid
I'll be out the back carving out my pumpkin head :)

By...

a) bombing out of finals instead of winning premierships
b) having bugger all All-Australians
c) having no Brownlow winners
d) getting our best and most expensive players long-term injured so they get guilted into accepting less money for following contracts.
e) by convincing players that a premiership is just around the corner, to make it worth making less money than at Freo or Richmond.
f) not trading for players with high pricetags.
g) trading for high draft picks that become cheap rookies.

Ahhh that's how you do it. Cheers for that.

He's not coming here..
His contract has run out, but he doesn't want to play for either Adelaide or Port Adelaide.

I found out, cause my mum works with his cousin's girlfriend, so I asked if she could call Tim & find out, so she did last night..

If he can't stay in Brisbane, he said he wants to go to Perth.
