Time to bring Didak back into the back line ala Leon Davis?

No. he's to soft, he's a gifted fwd-mid, that's where he needs to play.

Agree too soft and unaccountable for the backline, let him ghost around the wing/half forward line creating havoc with his movement and passing.

What do u think, sublime kicking, good for kickouts and pinpoint passing... Worked with Davis last year ???
Davis brought a defensive pressure, speed, class, form and a fit body as well the above to the table. Davis, on his form last year and the year before, would have a place forward or back in pies current best 22. Based on last year dids wouldn't. Not an option really.

Letting Davis go was a tradgedy.

Might be worth going and re-reading the last thread on this, which was met with similar objection. Too soft, too slow, too poor one on one.

Don't look back in anger or despair no, the past is irrevocably the past, Davis was a unique situation of a sublimely skilled defensive forward moving to the backline and blossoming. That doesn't come off every day of the week.

We have had more than our fair share of injuries this year which has been horribly destructive to our structures going forward. Hopefully the return of the bulk of them with - touch wood - no further injuries will allow our structures to firm up. THAT will settle most of the questions.

We have done very well for a team decimated by injuries so far, have faith and lets get behind the boys for the run into the finals. When fit we have the team to beat any in the comp, it can happen we just need a break with injuries.

you seen our delivery into the forward line lately?

It's sublime. I particularly love waiting for every hole to fill up and then kicking it to 20m out hoping for a contested mark against 38 other players. I also love it when both key forwards contest for the same mark. Safety in numbers I guess!

why not? I am a supporter: anger and despair on a weekly basis is my perogative, the foundation of the incomparable premiership winning experience.

from the club's perspective, I hope they are looking back and learning from the experience. In regards to loosing Davis, surely its a failure to manage the salary cap appropriately. In regards to the future, surely it proves the value of speed and skills in the modern day backline and the sort of player we need to recruit next year to fit our premiership window.

No Davis has been a year by year proposition for a while, he has reportedly been homesick for some time. There is no set formula for back lines or any lines for that matter, we have been using boundary line play for years due to a shortage of precision ball users to take it through the center. Use what you have and adapt the game plan to suit.

of course there is a 'formula' or guide line for team structure. undoubtedly in any given year we make do with what we have. that doesn't mean we can't identify future types that will give us wider choice than the current game plan has been working so well for us this year ...

bottom line tho, not Dids down back unfortunately

Total agreement on Dids. I do believe the injuries we have had down back have made things look much worse than they are in reality with a fully fit back line.

We have no run out of the back line and miss that pin-point kicking.
Worst of all, I cannot see any of them improving.
It's a massive problem

If we had Williams back in defence, he would add to the list of players with ordinary skills. Macaffer might have been an option as a designated kicker as his footskills seemed good in this role. However, in general, the Hawks have got it all over us when it comes to foot skills, and their delivery into the forward line is 100 times better than ours. The way we are playing, and with the limitations of some of our players, a miracle will be required to win us the premiership.

I only floated the idea out aloud due to thinking we need better delivery... I think he could do it, I also accept most disagree but strongly feel we now need a point of difference

No way for all the obvious reasons that have been stated, Davis left because he hates Buckley and nothing to do with finances.

We do miss him though massively!!!! it was that speed and precise delivery out of the backline but most importantly like BJ he broke the lines around defensive 50 meaning getting the ball to the wings was easy and not the bloody hard labour it seems to be this year.

Personally i would not mind picking up Aaron Davey at the end of the year with our last pick, certainly gone from Melbourne and i reckon he would be worth trying in the Davis role for a while.

Obviously not happy at the Dees and it shows in his body language, get him in for a pick around 90 or so and if he came good again could be a massive bonus.

Davis wasn't just in defence because he was a nice kick. He could actually defend one on one. The opposition dragging Davis back to the goal square never exposed him, he was quite comfortable in fact. If Didak was in defence, he would immediately find himself isolated one out in the goalsquare with his opponent licking his lips in anticipation.

Whats your source for this. I have only heard Bucks and Leon talk glowingly about each other
