Derek Hine has been great for us but it's time we got the best.

Graham Wright is the best. Get him.

Don't be a fool. This Hawks team smells a lot like the Storm during their dominance and the Lions! You simply cannot win a premiership playing within the rules these days.

can you prove that.
there leaders take massive unders to stay. and that's why they can afford to get f/a from other teams

It looks legit, but I get a strange feeling we'll be reading front page news about this Hawks team in 10 years. It doesn't make sense, but I just get that feeling.

Strong call, not an incorrect one but very bold going against the 'norm' fleet of Dekka lovers. He has delivered some treats for us and it's a bit hysterical to want to chase the winning GF teams recruiting staff every year :drunk:

They might be now but you watch them getting nice cushy jobs after their footy careers end with Hawks board members and supporters businesses.

so what that happens at most clubs.
why would they not disserved that after what they have achieved. we expect any different at Collingwood its called
looking after your premiership players

I dont know if its Wright, but whoevers been in charge of their trading deserves almost as much credit as Clarkson. Replace Gibson, McEvoy, Burgoyne, Hale, Gunston and Lake with vanilla mid range draft picks and upgraded rookies and theres no threepeat

I don't think Wright and Buckley got on particularly well in their playing days. But yes would be nice to try get him across to the black and white

Wright is their list manager.
He must have amazing powers of persuasion. Second and third rounder for Gibson and late 60s pick (turned into Duryea), McEvoy for a late first rounder and Savage was probably fair, cant remember what they paid for Burgoyne but pick 1 wouldnt have been too much. Cant be bothered looking up others but it feels like they always underpay

I don't agree with this opinion.

And here is why.

Graham Wright and more specifically Hawthorn have been the best team from a trading/opposition talent identification standpoint. On the other hand Hawthorn in identifying talent through the draft I would categorise certainly among the worse half of the competition.

Collingwood are in the other category entirely. Arguably we are best and most consistent draft day performers. And I'd regard Hine and Rendell as two of the three best recruiters in the country. So for junior talent identification. We're great. Just in terms of opposition talent identification we've been long poor. But then we had last year where we found Crisp, Greenwood and Varcoe while still drafting well with De Goey, Moore, Maynard and getting Cox as a rookie. So if we do as we did last year and continue to get those names right through trade week. We've got both recruiting bases covered and we really are from a holistic standpoint the best club from a recruiting standpoint in the country.

If we could keep Hine and Rendell as junior talent identifiers and Wright was there as a specialist to look at opposition lists. I'd do that.

But with Dom Milesi (3rd in charge behind Hine and Rendell) coming out of that Hawthorn recruiting team a few years back. He in theory should possess much of the knowledge of the way Hawthorn identify opposition talent and hopefully has passed that onto whoever in our recruiting team looks at opposition lists.

Best post I've read in ages, some of the stuff that comes out of Collingwood supporters mouths makes me vommit .
Finally someone with some brains.
Mick39 seriously? I have questioned far too many of your posts lately. ....

Is it Wright or the Hawthorn factor that they go for? How many of these guys would go to Melbourne if Wright was in charge there?

you are right in your thinking wright at another club would not get the cattle.
also there's no doubt he is part of what of hawthorn as a club has built

Exactly.
Whoever has the most success others will want to go there.
No magic pudding; success breeds success.
Paul Roos super coach with great success at Sydney, goes to Melbourne hows that working out?
Same wright hed be great anywhere but no where as lauded if he was at Melbourne.
Derek Hine is fine.
We just need a Riolli and Pendles supported by more elite, oh thats Treloar
