OK, as everyone will know we playd the 'BEST' team 'EVER' last night and got walloped by 141 points. I understand the AFC board and coaching panel will be thinking totally different, but I believe the best way of judging your 'list' is by putting it against the best, and as was shown we have got a dozen or so players that are and never will be AFL football players at a regular standard acceptable.
MUST GO:
- Nathan Bock (Looks out of his depth at AFL level)
- Josh Krueger (This bloke is more trouble than he's worth. I don't care what he's done in under 18 level, he is riddled with injuries, very much like Laurence Angwin was, and we CAN'T afford to have players like that on our list.)
- Wayne Carey (Obviously has retired)
- Matthew Clarke (Should really retire)
- Rhett Biglands (Shouldn't be delisted but definitely put him on the table during trade week)
- Scott Stevens (Did NOTHING at Sydney, and it sums up James Fantasia's efforts as RM, perfectly that he got this DUD to Adelaide)
- Ian Perrie (Majorly out of favour, trade him, somebody else will want him, give him the right opportunity and he'll be one hell of a player, Much like Brent Guerra really)
- Mark Stevens (Waste of a space on our list. He has played bloody 5 or so matches in 2 years. Time to develop of CHF)
- Nigel Smart (Already new his time was up)
- Brett Burton (Put him at FF, or trade him. DON'T DELIST)
- Chris Ladhams (GAWN, to inconsistent, no opportunities)
- Matthew Bode (See LADHAMS)
- James Gallagher (See Bode)
- Jacob Schuback (Looks alright, but hasn't done much and is injured, which could well see him delisted.
- Kris Massie (Another piece of 'masterful' recruiting
- Hayden Skipworth (Has had PLENTY of opportunities, and looks like a little boy in a man's game)
- Ronnie Burns (WILL RETIRE) BAD IDEA TO RECRUIT!
- Robert Shirley (Been at the club for about 3-4 years, and hasn't improved since the first time he played.
NOW THAT'S 18 players, that need to go. Is there some sort of limit to how many we can delist???
KEEP UNLESS ONE HELL OF A TRADE
- Scott Welsh (Future Full forward, providing we don't recruit someone like Alistair Lynch in the hope we can win the 2005 premiership with some 'add ons'
- Nathan Bassett (Real trier. Has been fed to the Dogs by our lack of defensive players. I hear Cooney wants to return home, perhaps we could do a straight swap. Cooney for Bassett, so he can be with his brother???
- Luke Jericho (Football talent = Excellent / Thinking his **** don't stink = Awful.) Yes, Andrew Jarman was talknig about him in Fridays paper.
- Jason Torney (YES he isn't overly young, but he will be vital when rebuilding our defence.)
- Martin Mattner (Good 1st round draft pick and this lad should go)
- Ben Hudson (Looks ok, real hard in an under Ruckman, which are very Rare. Unless we where looking at a young 'proven' ruckman like Jolly from Melbourne then we'd keep him.
- James Begley (Excellent player, but has his price)
- Brent Reilly (See James Begley)
- Michael Doughty (Underrated, 1st round draft pick on offer and he'd go)
- Ben Rutten (Will develop into a good full back, but I can't see him being a Mal Michael)
OBVIOUS UNTOUCHABLES AND MUST KEEPS:
- Andrew McLeod
- Mark Riccuito
- Simon Goodwin
- Ben Hart
- Tyson Stenglein
- Tyson Edwards
- Trent Hentschel (Will play 200 + games for AFC)
- Graham Johncock.
- Fergus Watts
PLAYERS WE MUST FISH FOR IN THE TRADE PERIOD
- ADAM COONEY (Homesick, Having a tough time at the Dogs.)
- DARREN JOLLY (Always overshadowed by Jeff White at Melbourne)
- BRAD OTTENS: (Always wanted to come home, and with a change of scenery, he would almost certainly 'cure' out CHF problems.
- JASON CLOKE: (We hate him because he's Collingwood, but when you strip that away, I reckon he'd go alright sitting at Centre Half back for us.
- DAVID SPRIGGS I get the feeling, he's not well respected at Geelong and is a bit of a party boy. Change of scenery could do him some good. He'd fit into our midfield or on a wing pretty well and is only 23 years old.
- HARRY MILLER: Currently at Hawthorn. Pt Lincoln boy, who is much like Ronnie Burns. Only 19. A project crumbing forward line player.
- DANIEL HARRIS: Would cost a bit, and probably almost untouchable at the Kangaroos. Only 22.
- EDWARD SANSBURY: Very much like Harry Miller. Ideal crumbing pocket player. The Kangaroos appear to have put him in defence a lot this season, but his craft his done up forward.
- MARK JAMAR: Ex North Adelaide player. 3rd string ruckmen at Melbourne at the moment. Good backup for Hudson and Jolly.
- JARED RIVERS: The bloke is an absolute GUN at 19. The key factor here is money. This bloke is almost worth $400,000 a year, and if we throw that sort of money at him. NOW WAY can Melbourne match it.
- CAIN ACKLAND: Would really be doubting his own ability after how he's been treated at the Power. Not a ruckmen. Ideally you'd mould him into a strong hard tall leading forward. But not Ruckman material.
- DAMON WHITE: Only 20, and has the traits of a 'good' forward.
- AARON FIORA May want to return home!!!!! Would be good value if we could get him around Pick 50-70 in the draft. Good player running the lines off half back?
- BRENDON GODDARD: Saints will be stretched for money with Riewoldt, Gehrig etc etc. If they where short of room, paying their youngsters big bucks. I reckon this bloke would get the shove.
- DYLAN PFITZNER Project player. Quick, crumbing forward or even midfielder.
- MITCHELL HAHN There's something about him. He'd go alright on a half forward flank I reckon.
- JORDON MCMAHON: Quick witted, good skills. Would go alright in OUR midfield rotations.
IF WE COULD GET THE MAJORITY OF THOSE PLAYERS EITHER BY TRADING OR DRAFTING, THEN OUR ROUND 1 line up for 2005 could look like this.
Forwards: Graham Johncock - Brad Ottens - Ed Sansbury (Harry Miller)
Half Forwards: Trent Hentscel - Cain Ackland - Fergus Watts
Centre: David Spriggs - Mark Riccuito - Adam Cooney
Half Backs: Andrew McLeod - Jarred Rivers - Ben Hart
Backs: Jordon McMahon - Ben Rutten - Tyson Edwards
RUCKS: Darren Jolly - Simon Goodwin - Tyson Stenglein
INTER: Damon White - Mark Jamar - Daniel Harris - Dylan Pfitzner
Average age: About 24 years of age. It'd be considerably less, but when you've got the likes of Goodwin, Edwards, Hart etc, it goes up a bit, but obviously these players are still good enough to be in our best 22.
