What is interesting to me is the great number of Best 22s with Timmy

He hasn’t quite made it yet so why the confidence?

I say

(a) He is actually pretty smart. I have occasionally seen some very clever play from him
(b) Bloody hell he is a good kick and a great set shot in particular
(c) He is (almost) a great mark of the footy. He is an inch away from kicking ass. This is the part of his game I hope he nails this year
(d) The guy can pinch hit in the ruck. That’s bloody handy. Great link up player
(e) His groundwork is surprisingly good
(f) He is pretty versatile. The guy might go back when we need him.

But what held him back from kicking ass this year and what does he need to do to be a consistent solid contributor?

My suggestions are simple: game time, a bit of passion and a healthy amount of belief

Is next year Timmy Time?

PS: If it is and Burton goes forward too ...wow-eee

Key position players take time and his 2017 exceeded the previously held expectations from this time last year.

Hopefully another step is taken in 2018, as he has the tools and did play a solid role throughout 2017.

I will need to re-read, but I noticed the number of "best teams" that HAD NOT picked TOB. Maybe I am mistaken.

Yeah not all had Timmy. My point was a few did and as he didn’t set the world on fire this year I suspect many posters see potential

But this is a general discussion of Timmy - if you’re not a fan then post. No one is right with this sort of player as he is on the cusp and he might not make the next level.

I rate Timmy for three reasons:

1. Last year...... his importance to our structure was Huge. He rarely lost a contest for a high long ball (rarely won them too);

2. His best game is elite and i still hope he can reproduce it consistently. His game against Melbourne last yea at the MCG round 7 was like Nick Riewoltd;

3. Why can't he become our Nick Riewoltd?

Doesn't have the gut busting endurance.

I love Timmy as a player but let's not set too high expectations on the kid, Riewoldt and Richo were the archetype for the modern mobile forward.

Seems to be 5-10% being off a really good footballer. As in, gets his hands to the ball but doesn't complete the mark, or does so much right but then just miffs it at the end.

Maybe he will get that last 5-105 and become a very solid footballer, maybe he never will though.

Ticks a lot of boxes doesn't he. He throws himself around a bit, so heard he was playing sore a lot of last year, so hopefully he can manage to put on weight over the summer. He's one of my personal favs, so hoping it all clicks 2018.

Has talent but too nice for mine and seems to lack that aggressive competitive spirit.

Just don't see him taking the next step unless that changes.

Would rather play Cegs and McEvoy and Burton/Siss up forward, than have TO and Schoey there.

FF: Puopolo - Roughead - Breust
HF: Burton - Gunston - Rioli
Ce: Shiels - Howe - Smith
HB: Birchall - Brand - Sicily
FB: Hardwick - Frawley - Stratton

Ru: McEvoy
RR: O'Meara
Ro: Mitchell

I/C: Ceglar, Impey, Burgoyne and Langford

Yeah I agree that Timmy is a great pinch hit option but it becomes harder for him if Ceglar comes in. Worried we are too tall if it’s BB, Cegs and Timmy but maybe it’s possible...

Good problems to have

Needs to put on some muscle and with that strength which will help him hold on to his marks.

If he can do this, a fine player he will be.
