Disagree with this and other similar posts.

Tippett, imo, is not, was not a particularly good player. He is however quite a valuable player and there is a difference. He plays a role not many can, especially now with the sub rule. He plays it competently but inconsistently.
He can't be compared to greats like Carey. Or even good current players like Franklin, Brown or even Petrie.

Statistically he is the equivalent of Ian Perrie. He has never threatened a club champion award, AA honours, media awards. Not even the Agars award. I can think of 2 games out of almost 100 where he has dominated

He is an average player that plays a role few in the modern game can. That's why he is valuable and worth 2x 1st rounders.

It's perfectly legitimate to hold an opinion he is an average player while also asking for proper trade value. Simple laws of supply and demand.

Imo history will eventually judge mckernan as the better of the 2 players.

The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them... To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just as long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies – all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth.

that really doesn't apply to the quoted post.

I can buy a house for $800,000 but it is only valued at $500,000

so its worth is greater than it's value which is what Peter J is effectively saying.

I think doublethink applies perfectly to that statement. You can't compare Tippett to midfielders or defenders because he is a forward. You can only compare him to other forwards. So when you say that Tippett is not a particularly good player, you're saying he is not a particularly good forward, as that is the role he plays. That is clearly untrue. He has value (whether 2 first rounders or not) because he is a good forward. If not, he would not have that value, and he wouldn't be making a million a season next year. If you say he's not a particularly good forward and that he only has value for the position he plays, why not take Jesse White as your forward? Why did nobody offer Dawes a million a season?

When we trade Tippett to you, he is an extremely valuable player, and worth top notch trade assets. When we talk about losing him, he's not particularly good, and one of our reserves will probably be better.

Sounds like doublethink to me.

Goodness me, an obnoxious Sydney poster ....well I never.

I shouldn't be surprised. That you are attempting to apply a fictional solution to what is a question of economics is , I guess , consistent with your own clubs trading philosophy.

Shall I ask you to return to your board politely, of shall I act as you board does to our posters and ridicule you with bile and venom?

So this just in on AdelaideNow...

Adelaide utility bills are highest in the nation

FOR the first time on record, Adelaide householders are spending more on utilities than their counterparts in any other Australian capital, a welfare report shows.

HOORAH! The AFC are going to get an additional 10% of salary cap for a CoL allowance! Tippett back to the Crows when he hears of this...

isn't what Kerr has done the same as what used to get Rendell in trouble? - oversharing.
No what Rendell said was a Racist

I don't agree with the 10% CoL allowance for Sydney, and I think you're taking the piss anyway, but gas and electricity are generally far behind other expenses such as housing and food for almost everyone.

EDIT: Just so I'm clear, I'm referring to the fact that he's using it as a noun, rather than a verb.

EDIT to the EDIT: When I said he's using it as a 'noun, rather than a verb', I actually meant to write 'adjective, rather than a verb.' In other, completely unrelated, news I'm an idiot!

If we don't do something about it now, I'm worried there might come a time where people can't sign up without passing an English exam, or were born before Google.

Does that make me Google-ist?

I edited it, and didn't remove the "a". One thousand apologies to you good sir.

play the ball now Peter :)

market value is determined by the market - Tippett is worth what another club will pay for him

we might think he has ordinary skills, keeps falling over and couldn't hit a barn from the top of the goal square but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be the highest paid player in the team

My biggest pet peeve on forums (probably because it is the most common mistake I see) is people using the wrong your/you're.

No, you're using Google as a reference point in time. This would make you ageist. Which incidentally is a real term, which I never hear, even though I'm sure it happens.

At least people on this on the Adelaide board don't capitalise every word like this one idiot did on the Draft and Trading board.

Kerr's Articles Are Clearly Club Sanctioned.

He Is A Very Savvy Operator - I Don't Envisage Him Showing Any Cards He Still Needs.

Lol, one of the first to land on my ignore list.

Edit: Ha, funny timing for above post.

What a **** up. Pick 12 and pick 23 and now nothing. He had agreed to go, we must have known he was going. Absolutely ******* stupid decision.

The most important fact about this is that KT was willing to go without screwing the Crows over.

You certainly thought correctly. Apologies to all if it wasnt highly evident, that in fact I was certainly 'extracting the urine' out of the joke that is Sydeny's 10% CoL allowance.

Given the risk of the dodgy side deal being made public and the fact that $kurt was happy to be traded to Brisbane just last year, it really does seem a dumb that Trigg backed the Crows to re-sign $kurt again this year. Hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess.

Regarding Rob Kerr's musings about trade week, while I think they are awesome, I would be a little bit concerned as a staff member that he was 'showing' Brisbane's hand to the opposition a little.

Don't forget, Kurt was saying to team mates and coaching staff he fully intended to stay - up to July in fact. Now either he was lying, which is possible, OR something happened to change his mind. Could have been a number of things - concussions, for example that made them think he needed to get the best possible deal in the next contract given his footy career was one good knock away from ending, or a team (Sydney) hearing about "the clause" and putting an offer too good to refuse to him.
