pick 22, with all free agency picks and the like floating around would pick 22 be pick 22 or could that pick slide out a lot further ?

Will slide out at least one with Goddard .....doubt whether other FA deals will impact first round

I would offer Kennedy what we were paying Skurt, even if we have no real chance of snaring him, at least Sydney and even the Hawks would have to offer the same or more to keep or get him and that might bust their salary cap and no longer be able to off our million dollar baby his share.

I'd love to have Kennedy - and a straight trade for Tippett would be about fair. I just don't think he'd be interested in playing for Adelaide. I think he's more likely to be happy in Melbourne (probably Hawthorn), hence the involvement of a 3rd club.

Sorry won't happen .....Hawks have an undersized defense, Gibson has to battle giants, so i don't think a 192cm defender solves their lack of size in defense

Roughead was fantastic all year and can play any KP and ruck .....he would be as valuable to Hawks as Tippett was to us , probably moreso ......no chance!

How about we wait to see what Sydney have to offer before jumping straight to the PSD. As TSR has repeatedly stated, the Swans management clearly rate Tippett and they have a good reputation for trading fairly. Just because a lot of their supporters are completely clueless when it comes to trading, does not imply that the same holds true for the club itself.

NO it was after the flags ....1999 IIRC, wanted a bigger contract and father was negotiating hard and using Brisbane as the lever

Presumably the price they would attach to Tippett's nomination would be low enough to ensure he ends up at GC, noting that there's only the remotest of chances that he'd still be available at Sydney's PSD selection. I'm willing to bet that GC remains his fall-back position.

He won't do that .....because if he does slip to Sydney he just reduced his contract

No it's all eggs in the Sydney basket and hoping no-one picks him up b4 Sydney .......and we can categorically say that he would not get to Sydney (Freo, Carlton, Melbourne)

I'm assuming here that AFL clubs then have the opportunity of restructuring their TPP after taking Tippett ....because even Sydney would have that much gap going into the PSD you would imagine (if i calculate correctly $1M off their TPP leaves them still under the min % of TPP?)

With Bolton an injury away from retirement ........the only thing i could think of that was holding up his contract was
a) whether Sydney got Tippett
b) whether any Sydney players (Bolton) retires

Maric left with the club's blessing to get an opportunity at a club as the #1 ruck

Bock, Davis and now Tippett have all left in circumstances where the extra concessions for the expansion teams and the salary cap relief for Syd presented a unfair playing field where it was virtually impossible to match the inflated contracts that have been offered by these clubs, take away these concessions and I am confident 2 out of the 3 would have stayed

Dumber yes, they have willingly played guys like Raph Clarke, Zac Dawson and Dean Polo over the last few years.
Scott Watters has said publicly that they will target a KPD. Grundy would fill that role and would free up Sam Fisher who finished the year playing on the oppositions best forward. They were after Caddy so that suggests that they would be willing to part with either pick 12 or 13

Bock - Received a once in a lifetime offer for a player such as himself toward the end of his career.
Davis - Read above, replace toward the end of his career, with several potentially career ending injuries before turning 21.
Gunston - Soft. Likely planning his exit from SA as soon as he got here.
Tippett - This is the strange one. Cried homesickness for years, and then goes to Sydney. I think football is just a tool which allows him to live the lifestyle he wants to. I believe he'll struggle badly to fit in with the Swans "culture".
Maric - Was going to be stuck behind Jacobs indefinitely, and left for more opportunities. Crows supporters very happy to see him doing so well. Was happy to stay in Adelaide if a trade couldn't be found. You'd also struggle to find anybody from Victoria who thought he was a good player before this year. Most Richmond supporters on here thought they paid massive overs for him, now it's steal of the century.

We have actually also signed several interstate players this year to 3 year deals (including Dangerfield, who was being offered huge money to head home to Vic). But people seem to be ignoring that. I think if there are any issues that players have, it's with the city, rather than the club. Not much we can do about that.

Bock got millions with a battered body.
Davis got trillions for playin 6 games.
Maric wanted to be a first selected ruck.
Knights couldn't get a game.

A few thoughts....
Sydney is the fairest trading team in the history of the AFL. Unlike Essendon and Hawthorn we always take the interests of other clubs or unrequired players into account.

Heath Grundy is only a year older than Tippett. 101 kg key defender who was in the calculations of many, many commentators during All-Australian discussions (you don't have SEN in Adelaide but they sometimes discuss players from outside Adelaide). Considering that Rutten is nearly dead and Shaw and Talia are practically teenagers, I'd say that he has more than passing currency.

Of course who you would really want is Rohan or Jetta - Um, sorry, pass.

BTW did you know Roos offered Richmond picks 6 and 14 for pick 3 in that draft? That's how much he wanted Dustin Martin...would have swapped Rohan and Jetta for him!!!

To be fair that very last sentence has absolutely no bearing on what happens here, that draft was 4 years ago now.

Your rating system is all well and good Parker's top ten if we enter the draft now and such.

The question I pose to you is...

If Parker is a lock for top ten, what do you think Tippett goes at if he entered this years draft?

Exorbitant wage and all he would slide no further than Melbourne's third/fourth selection. That's not being biased or arrogant it is just realising that a club would pay the draft premium for his output.

Don't worry I am realistic to realise that we don't get anywhere near that. I recognise that we will get a very good deal out of it however. I think for a player like Tippett, a guy like Grundy moves from untradable to tradable just for the upside Kurt brings that side.

I think that Grundy + 1st rounder is just about as fair as it gets from both sides.

No i think it's a lifestyle issue IMO.

With more money / less loyalty we'll see more players prepared to move .....one does and many follow which is why GC and GWS are trying to plug the hole in a potential dam with Dyson ect

Now with Free Agency just watch this game change for the worse ......we have only seen the tip of the iceberg

1. Top clubs will never drop out of the 8 anymore .......instead of replenishing via the draft these clubs will replenish via Free Agency with players in their prime

2. Bottom clubs will simply be feeders as they won't attract the players under Free Agency who are looking for money and finals

3. Players overpaid in the bottom clubs because of the % of TPP each club must pay WILL reduce their contracts late in career to get team success

4. Lastly ....it has happened in basketball where a group of players have got together to one club for finals success and have orchestrated a group move themselves outside any club involvement ....watch this space

Grundy's value is probably in the range of pick 20-25. Picks 20 + 22 would be like trading for two second round draft picks. Not worth entertaining.

No.. but it could form the basis of a fair trade - if Sydney were able to find a real 1st round pick, inside the top 12. Grundy + 22 + top-12 pick = fair trade.

Adelaide has had a surplus of this type of player, Maric is at richmond because Adelaide had jacobs incoming and several part time rucks, Maric is too good to be sitting out games due to team structuring after the idiotic substituion rule was implemented.
Gunston is pretty much a little bitch as is $kurt.
Davis and Bock were targeted players with un-matchable deals from the AFL's pets under a coach that most fans were seriously not fans of.

The Sydney concession cap is netting Sydney an extra player of quality, right now.
It is completely ridiculous, no contracted player is in risk of being below the poverty line and not able to get by off their salary it's completely out of touch with reality and the club should not be advantaged by this.
