funny how everyone is saying that he's crap now.
but the same people wanted 2 first round picks for him...
True.

I think all players have upside and downsides ...

When they are on your team, its all about the good - when they are gone, people focus on the negatives.

Pick out a player on another team that you hate - cannot stand - probably Milne is the best example. Who would want that little so-and-so in their team? He is over-rated yappy nuisance ... who would be welcomed with open arms into your team when he keeps kicking 3 or 4 goals every game !! Lots of supporters would accept his downsides once he came onboard, and just focus on the fact that the sniper can play ... but you could bet that St Kilda supporters would be off him so fast your head would spin. "Team harmony" ... "Never performed in Finals" ... "Over Paid" ... etc ...

KT is like that.

he does come with a lot of emotional baggage now. imagine if he has a quiet second half of his career, how would you feel being the guy that recruited him after all this and he kicks 40 goals a season for the next 5 seasons.

No, he is not. Robran and Sarge were footballers with the brains and skills to have a far greater impact than KT. This bloke is the most over-rated footballer in history.

I rated Robran, he was a solid player but better than Tip$, don't think so.

I don't think they are denying his was worth those pics.

The value of something is determined by supply and demand. The demand was high (Sydney, GC, Brisbane) and the supply of solid 2m ruck forwards is low. Whether he is actually worth two high draft picks is irrelevant, the market sets the price.

Somewhere along this never ending journey I did do some research and found tippets stats to be no better than Perrie.

You can't compare tippett with either robran or Perrie as they are different players in different eras. Tippets value has sky rocketed thank s to the new sub rule. There just are not many players who can legitimately ruck and play key fwd.

Im not saying tippett is anything more than ok in this role, but he can do it . Hence he is rare and basic economic rules of supply and demand apply. If we compare it to fruit, if bananas are in short supply the seller can still get a high price for a bruised one. If there were plenty he would have to discount the bruised ones to get rid of them

Tippett is a bruised banana. That's why in one hand he is not that great, but on the other ask for a higher trade value.

Robran really? One of the softest "big" men Ive ever seen. Had skills, but sublime is an overstatement and as for understanding of the game, yeah he understood real well how to avoid getting in its way. I think Sarge at least would give his all from time to time. Crap kicking skills on par with Kurt, didnt have the aerial ability of Kurt and neither of these guys had anywhere near the presence, the recovery speed or agility when ball went to ground, or the ability to draw 2 key defenders did like Kurt does.

Better off comparing personality defects to these guys I think, in which case I think youd have a good argument.
Yeah hes a douche`, but these types of comparison make us look like those Carlton fans who still believe Kruezer is the best pic from the 07 draft.

It doesn't look like Kurt Tippett will cary Florida!

Thought you guys might be interested in the Lions' perspective on Kurt:

That's a fantastic read. I wish more clubs showed as much transparency. Interesting they would've given 8 and 24 for Hogan, maybe Melbourne aren't overpaying by as much as we thought. Also interesting they have meetings well before the trade period. We all suspected this, but it's not strictly allowed is it?

Wonderful information provided to the supporters of a football club!!! Sensational piece of PR work. It would be nice if AFC could get to this level of information sharing, rather than becoming less accessible and transparent each year.

I note in the preamble re Tippett, the statement that there are about 12 genuinely good 'rare beast key forwards' in the world.

Walker
Tippett
Brown
Cloke
Hurley
Pavlich
Hawkins
Podsiadly
Franklin
Roughead
Clark
Petrie
Schulz
Riewoldt
Riewoldt
Kennedy

12 is probably a little thin. I'd have 16 as 'genuinely good' though he may have ruled out the older ones.

@whataboutbob ....thanks a heap for that.

So what we do know

- 2009 tippett was so keen to leave we had to take , what appear to be, extraordinary measures to keep him

- in 2011 tippett had not changed his mind about Adelaide and wanted a trade to lions if possible

What we dont know?

- given what we do know.....who the f....k thought we coukd convince him to stay!!!

IDIOTS!!!!!!

Kerr's Trade and Draft wraps each year (since he joined in '10) are genuinely competition leading. They give us Lions supporters a clear sense of the direction the club is heading in, and confidence that they know what they're doing. If you guys want something similar I'd suggest you forward it to AFC.

thanks whatboutbob, really impressive communication from your club.

Wish the AFC would do something like this......I've never seen anything like it from our club

What a **** up. Pick 12 and pick 23 and now nothing. He had agreed to go, we must have known he was going. Absolutely ****ing stupid decision.

Is this a fact?

If it is and we didn't pull the trigger on the trade. We deserve everything we get.

Yup. From the article bob posted above;

Kurt and his management had, at that time, agreed to the move if a trade could be completed.

Well **** me.

It's time to go......Ben, Estelle, Layla or Steven Trigg?

Steven Trigg - you are the weakest link - Good buy

Would Brisbane have taken over his dodgy contract? I'm still thinking that the reason we baulked at the Brisbane trade was that the only chance of burying the soul-selling contract was to re-sign him.

so you'll stick up for Tippett but not for Trigg?

Go back and read my previous post on the subject. You will find, I've said numerous times that he have to wait until we find everything out before passing judgement, and it works both ways. Lets gain all the information on Kurt Tippett as well before making that call.

Oh what!!!! yes, you don't what to know that.
