This is a very very smart move. The AFC stated they would fight if the punishment was excessive. They have said that they would cop their medicine. Now they have told the AFL what that medicine will be. The AFL will have great difficulty now going past this and risking court action.

This just tops off an already screwed day.

They better have some bloody master plan up their sleeve that will result in us getting some good news down the line.
If, in discussions with the AFL, we are to believe that we will be excluded from the first 3 rounds of a draft, why would we not make it this year, where our picks are late and the draft isn't overly deep?

In addition, it means we don't remove all trade ability in regards to future trade periods as we can still trade picks. Our current picks can't be traded anymore and only have one use.

And to top off the benefits, we are making minimal list changes this year and are heavily invested in the draft. This is the best year for us.

It's a dangerous move, as there's nothing in clad about the AFL saying well done that's it, but AD does like when people play ball.

I think you can nominate your $ value and length of contract in either draft, as long as you're not a new player to the AFL system.

I'm not so sure GWS will pass on him though. I could be wrong, but I don't think you can nominate an optional extension as part of your contract conditions.

Yep, in reality an optional extension which isn't binding (assuming it isn't) is worth SFA. So if I was GWS and I really wanted him I'd match a non-binding contract extension offer... no risk!

Sorry to intrude Crows, but I think this is an excellent move! Not only are you dictating now essentially what punishment you will get; next year the draft will be far less compromised. Pick 20 and 54 as your 2 top picks is madness. Next year if you finish 4th or 5th you'd be looking at picks 14 and 40-45 at worst. Even if it is a slightly stronger draft this year, I think you have just saved yourself big time!! Well done

I guess.

If long term this works out, it will be worth it but knowing how our administration run things - this won't amount to anything. The board find the simplest of ways to ****ing thing up.

I'm confused as to why Carlton got away with all the third party deals they made. i'm not about this latest deveolpment though, it's mature and dignified.

We aint the ones denying we done wrong or were the proactive ones in phuqing the system over.

Probably should take a punt on Irra now. This is a lost draft for us now, so we my as well take a punt on an outside chance - high potential, player. That's assuming we use a pick on Joyce, and then the other on Callinan.

So as it stands we've lost our highest paid player, the two first round picks compensation we effectively should've received for trading him and our first two picks in the draft BEFORE our official punishment is even handed down.

What a **** up. Someone needs to be held accountable for this, proactive move or not it's now officially become a massive whack rather than a gentle slap around.

If this is all a result of expansion teams inflating player wages then we have lost

Bock, Davis , Tippett , first and 3rd round draft picks and Joyce

for the gain of

Crouch and Tambling

lol, relax man, the club surely would have sought some sort of acknowledgement that this will be accounted for in the penalty from the AFL
What...do you mean like a gentlemens agreement between us and the AFL??? What a joke....we've bent over big time here. Should have taken pick 20 and run for the hills. Cop the penalty on the chin, don't pre-empt and give them back. Can't believe we've done this.

What a joke. Can't really see the benefits of this. Makes it much easier for them to keep us out of two drafts now as well. Those in charge at the club have got me confused, would have much rathered we picked up best available and then with a strong list going forward take the punishment. Not like we have a heap who will be retiring anytime soon.
