what a surprise that the only person who says this is a member of another club....well done and go away

If we've done it in lieu of further draft sanctions, and have a guarantee from the AFL stating as such, then it's a good move.

And for the record, whatboutbob has been one of the few members of other clubs posting in here about the Tippett saga who hasn't resorted to inflammatory bullshit.

Not wanting to move the discussion away from the legal draft manipulation too far - but on the subject of 3rd party deals ... this was posted on another site:

List of VISY Environmental Ambassadors for 2012:
Chris Judd
Dennis Armfield
Paul Bower
Dave Ellard
Michael Jamison
Matthew Kruezer
Jeffrey Garlett
Aaron Joseph
Kane Lucas
Jarrad Waite
Rhys O'Keeffe
Marcus Davies
Jordan Russell
Ed Curnow
Eddie Betts
Sam Rowe
**** me!

That's one heck of a list! Carlton must have two "salary caps"! One at the AFL and one at VISY,

You only plea bargain when you have a pretty fair idea what the penalty is going to be. With little in the way of precedent and a kangaroo court, I guess the advice of our QC was that it's not worth taking the chance of being made an example of.

I can only assume we will settle this thing and not go to the Commission which is sensible as we eliminate the downside risk and save the lawyer's costs. If we still go and do not have an agreed penalty, we could get reamed.

There are plenty of cases of that in the US criminal courts. Judge takes the guilty plea, ignores the plea bargain and throws the book at the accused (who can't tghen plead innocence).

Exactly. We have now, as a result of this whole shambles (of which we had full knowledge all along), lost Tippett for nothing, we have lost whatever compensation we would have been given by the AFL if he'd signed for GC as an uncontracted player if we hadn't used these underhanded means of keeping him, we've lost Bock as an uncontracted player who GC would not have had access to if Tippett had gone, we didn't get Brisbane's 2011 pick 8 which was on the table for him, we didn't get Sydney's 2012 pick 23 or anything else in trade week for him, which was massively unders anyway, now we have lost pick 20 and pick 54.

And for what? A record season-opening losing streak which ensured 2010 was over before it started. Our worst season ever in 2011. And a gallant 2012 campaign which still didn't break our now decade and a half long Grand Final drought which is only matched by competition heavyweights Richmond, Fremantle and the Bulldogs.

Even if we are handed no further sanction by the AFL (which I severely doubt) and there is a compelling explanation which shows that the AFC were really just innocent bystanders in all of this (which is even less likely), any administration and football department which lets happen what has already happened must be held accountable.

If there are not some serious changes in personnel and club structure which show that the club is serious about accountability, transparency and most importantly giving the blokes on the field the best possible chance of finally lifting some silverware, I will not bother renewing my membership next year. I never thought it would get to this point.
perhaps with your crystal ball and supreme prescience you will be able to tell us how our next three years will pan out, or perhaps we should call for...

That's my thinking too which makes me think that we somehow know we will only be penalised for 1 draft. In which case its a good move. However, if we get penalised for more than one draft, then it's a crazy move. Either way, Trigg cannot possibly survive now.

Someone has to take the rap for it. I will be filthy if this is just swept under the carpet as "We've taken our punishment, its time to put this all behind us and move on."

Quality stuff from AdelaideNow. Who's butt is Tippett checking out?

I reckon the Commission will do whatever is good for football. It's not in the best interests of the game to punish Adelaide too harshly - there's nothing to be gained by persecuting the innocent Adelaide fans, members, players, coaching staff, etc for the misdemeanors of a few Administrators several years ago.

The commission will punish the club just enough to act as a disincentive to others.

Adelaide have really helped their own cause. Whatever punishment is yet to come, the punishment would have needed to be a lot worse to act as a disincentive. Adelaide have made it easier for the commission to do their job, whilst limiting the damage.

AFGM - you about?

Anymore to come out on GC having some form of agreement with Tips last year?
Firstly I must apologise for the delay in replying. Despite rumours that I had returned to Vanuatu, the truth is that I started a new job two weeks ago which means I can only post at night.

I am hopeful that all the facts will be revealed on the 30th but that may not be what happens. It may be in the best interest of both the AFL and the AFC if some of the facts remain forever in the vault (and they may do a deal to assure that this occurs).

There are still quite a few unanswered questions and I for one am hopeful that everything is brought out into the open. At this stage the minimum we will suffer is a first and second round (kinda) draft pick and fair compensation for Tippett (which I believe should be at least a single digit draft pick). Thank god our list is in the best shape in our history so we may be able to come through this without too much long term damage.

This must be the truth of it.

I cannot believe that we would do this without a nod from the AFL.

We have some very very good legal /administrative / AFL minds involved at our end of the table, they aren't just taking turns picking strategy out of a hat.

The calls for people to resign Or be held accountable OR strung up ... we should all have learned one thing so far, that nothing is what it seems. Never be too sure you know the full story or which way this story is going to leap.

Keep your hat on, show some patience - ignore the trolls ... just a few more thousand posts and this will all be behind us :-)

It also means that we gave up literally nothing for Angus Graham :D

Yeah there's no way the AFL would take that into account...

I think it is better than 50/50 he will end up at GWS -
(1) Dean Brogan deliseted to fit him into the list in the PSD.
(2) 90% of GWS players wouldn't want to be there either.
(3) GWS being Vlads love child he will pony up the cash.
(4) 100 games of forward experience is a great help to them.
(5) After a year they could then trade him for a high draft pick and or player.

I think they would do it just for upgrading a PSD pick to most likely a first rounder the year after.

That's what they SHOULD do...that's the SMART option for all the clubs in the draft...BUT...I've a feeling that the little princesses constant tantrum throwing and the threats of legal action will mean he gets to the Swans

Saw Caro write the other day that GWS 's interest in Tippett has cooled....no doubt as a result of all his tantrums and refusal to even meet with Sheeds

They still don't get it! It is very frustrating.

The people that don't seem to get it is you two. We were prepared to lose Tippett to the PSD for nothing, as it sent a message to players and their managers, and other teams, that we were not going to bent over at the trading table, and accomodate easy passage to their desired club. However, being forced to lose Tippett for nothing because the club is under an investigation for draft tampering, and salary cap rorting, as a result of a side deal we'd made (which we were told didn't actually exist) is another matter altogether. In the second scenario, we truly did lose Tippett for absolutely nothing.

Whatever the eventual punishment from the AFL, the AFC spindoctors will still declare it a triumph.

If we hadn't come forward to the AFL and later made the goodwill gesture then we would have been out of the draft for 4 years, played 2013 without any premiership points and had to donate our top six players to Collingwood, Sydney, Hawthorn and the Power, yada, yada yada.......................

Jenny, I admire your spirited defence of our CEO, all 1,000 posts, but if you are truly a mate of Steven then look him in the eye and ask him this " Has the AFC ever arranged undeclared third party payments from a sponsor to an AFC captain, and I don't mean Nathan van Berlo?"
