Look, you're confusing a few things.

He has been advised badly, lets start with that. Hopefully your Crows coloured sunglasses will allow you to admit that.

Secondly, he is not a bad guy. He is in fact, a top bloke who before all of this was idolised by 95% of this board.

And thirdly, if everyone has their time again - most would do it very differently. Him and the club.

Please be honest and tell me - during the preliminary final did you cheer for him? I know I did.
I said months ago, before this blew up that with Kurt it's all about Kurt and I've been proven right. 95% of this board didn't idolize him, he was actually a polarizing figure.

As for cheering him on, you are confusing a few things, cheering a Crows player as opposed to cheering the bloke. Just because he was a valuable player and we wanted him to peform well for the team didn't mean I thought he was a good bloke. I was quite pissed off with him for not committing to the team and his distabalising influence.

Kurt is a 25 year old bloke, being advised poorly is a cop out. By that age you know what the decent thing is.

Anyway, I don't feel like turning this into a 10 page debate, you've got your opinion and I have mine.

If you're going to make open ended statements, can you please not add statements like this. All that it does is make you look like your not even willing to debate your opinion.

As I said, I don't care anymore. I'm over it. I'm over the entire thing as I still don't know the truth and don't feel I ever will.

This is the thing that I reflect on the most. He was breaking the game open, looked passionate again, and brought his best game back when it counted.

This image says it all really. He looks like someone who is proud and a fully committed member of the Adelaide Football Club.

Tippett prelim final.jpg

Its hard to believe how drastically the "relationship" could sour.

The horrible quotes when announced he was off (Coaches height, home state ), the text messages, the statement in his name after the hearing, his refusal to delist him self to avoid seeing one of his former teammates having to be delisted.

What would be interesting is how many of these events have been of his own making, or poor advice from management, his dad and lawyers.

Because Rob Chapman has said that Kurt had no input at all in the statement that was released post the hearing.

I still can't respect him, but I do know exactly where you are coming from Alex.

I think your summation of Tippett is pretty spot on EC.

A woman whose name I didn't catch but appeared to be known to the 5aa boys on Sunday am was saying that she had been talking to Mr X, some Sydney official, who was saying that Sydney have become very alarmed re Tippett and would renege on the agreement with him if they could, but they can't. They won't be at all upset if another club takes him .Gave a lot more info than that, but I had my wife in the car yakking on her mobile phone drowning out the radio.

So some random rings a radio station in Adelaide, bags him to and suggest the Swans would remove any contract based on his behaviour?

Even if this is true, it sounds very dubious to believe.

Didn't the Swans say as recently as Sunday that they Swans were still very interested in him?

"Although today's decision is obviously a disappointing setback for Kurt, we have always seen Kurt as a long-term player and we will go to the pre-season draft with the intention of selecting him if he's available at our pick," Moore said.http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/mor...-on-kurt-tippett/story-e6frf9jf-1226527753556

Come on M23 - your words is usually one that can be taken with value and honesty but believing that random women is a bad call.

Now, I know the media can manipulate quotes, so I guess we will have to wait and see.

But I will stand by my assessment, KT isn't a bad guy.

Oh well as a great Australian once said....suffer in your jocks!

Would love to know which Melb club is having a sniff. Hopefully the Bulldogs.

Ouch!! You're shooting the messenger, Alex!!

The only reason I repeated it was that the 5aa boys said after she finished her call, was that so and so (the lady's name) was a well informed lady who came up with some very good info from time to time. Remember I'm hearing all this (or trying to) through my wife's endless yakking on her mobile, or I might be able to be a little more specific!! :D

Sorry Caroline. :D

Fair point

I guess we will have to wait until, the PSD to know what the hell is going in.

So it doesn't worry you that this management incompetence has diminished our future chances of on-field success?

In such an even competition, those 5 or 6 first and second round picks we lost are going to hurt in 2 years time, and last for a decade.
Our on field success is happening now and for the next few years. We are one of the youngest teams in the comp and we have a new young and up and coming star in Couch ready to go as of next year. I dont believe that those first round draft picks, which were what in the late teens? 20? are going to hurt us that much, maybe if they were in the top 10 they would. We have the money we would have spent on Tippett and with free agency we have options.

Interesting perspective from Chapman;
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport...r-record-numbers/story-e6freck3-1226529992735

"There has been overwhelming support for Steven in the past five weeks," Chapman said.
"People who know Triggy and are able to put a personality to the face are understanding of the situation. They know Steven made a mistake but that it was an isolated one.
"He is a very good chief executive who should not be hung for one offence.
"People who don't know him are asking a lot of questions."

Tippett can't play any form of footy during his ban. We saw what his form was like when he had time off this year. Then throw in his inconsistent form, next year is going to be a big risk for any team.

Is he allowed to train with his new team or is it like Trigg's ban where he cant even go to a footy match, absolutely everything is off limits?

ok what happens if next year we get a run of injurys to key players and have a slump in form and end up loosing a top 10 pick next year, not saying it will happen but would be sickened even more if it did to loose such high draft pick.....you just never know!

Edit : Oh and the pick brisbane was offering last year was a little higher than pick 20 ;)

I don't disagree with your optimism about our current list, you're a glass half full guy. I look at what could have been, we could have been ever better in 2-3 years time. I'm greedy for success.

We will never know how costly the penalty is. But it sounds like we would have taken O'Brien at 20 - let's see how good he becomes. And for the purposes of debate, we could say we might have picked up Broomfield at 23. Watch him too and see if we missed a couple of good ones.

As for next year, we'll know the draft pick number we would have had but not the players we might have selected.

I can't share your phlegmatic attitude though sworc36, there's a reason the clubs put so much time and money into scouting ......they value their draft picks and want to make best use of them.

Had dinner some uni friends on the weekend. One who is part of the basketball scene around town here (involved with sixers and club/state level teams for underage coaching and also administration for BASA in general)

Anyway - Tippetts ex was apparently a very handy basketballer. She was making noise earlier in the year about them both moving to GC with her going to play for the WNBL team up there because she couldn't crack the lightning and he.. well it wasn't spoken but the implication was GC from what my mate was describing. Can't for the life of me think of what her name is now - anyone know? (AFGM feel free to cling to that belief!)

Not sure of all the timings of the breakup versus sydney visit to tippett house in GC; but apparently she is now looking to jump into netball as things for them fell through and perhaps with him not going there it was harder for her to move up there and afford to play?

Anyone know anything more to that?

My guess is that there was considerable risk management from the AFL and then the AFC. We started this aggressively and postured with appointing QC's. You may recall my description of Edwardson. Once he got involved we were reading that witnesses were being called and cross examined, turning this into a trial. I read the AFL were quite concerned and counseled us to back off. They could probably see the whole thing blowing up and ending in civil court.

The wheeling and dealing took over or...risk management. We were offered a deal to minmise the penalty and extricate ourselves from the AFL and Tippett as opposed to boxing on and risk losing with a far worse penalty. We may have also ended up in litigation with tippett.

And so we calculate risk v reward. So it all changes, we pull in our horns and cop it. We will never know what, if any defence there was. The term day in court means a chance to defend yourself which Trigg clearly believes he did not get. We are left with no other conclusion than no defence was available.

Thanks PJ. I do recall Chappie saying at the time we wanted an outcome that was good for the game, or words to that effect. It stuck me as odd....doesn't he want what's best for the club? Maybe he was referring to the deal and our decision to cop it sweet for the sake of the game.

I actually think the penalties are quite harsh, hate to think what we would have copped if we had fought it and lost!
