Tipping competition 08'

Hi freo board,

I just thought I would put the feelers out, about how everyone feels about participating in a tipping comp this season. It would only be forum wide not BF wide, and I would be willing to do the admin, with a touch of help if on the rare occasion i am away for a couple of days.

First thing we would need to do is come up with some sort of consensus for rules, do we want to go through the finals and all the other questions usually asked.

Let me know, and we will see who the best footy brain really is, once and for all!

Also we will no doubt see who the tragics are that pick freo every week. IP! Rip?

Would be pretty difficult. Chucking in a few of bucks wouldn't bother me but the logistics of it all becomes complicated.

When I'm leading the comp by 5 tips going into round 22 feel free to buy me a pint at JB O'Reilly's if you want to give me a prize though Azza.

Doesn't the theory go that the less you know the better you tip?

My tipping skills are on a par with Freo's performances over the years (although, I've never scaled the heights of 2001) but it sounds like a bit of fun to me.

Are we going to announce a weekly winner for bragging rights?

Because we might need to have designated game every week where you tip the margin to use as a tiebreaker. Maybe the Fri night game or the game at Subi every week or something?

The idea was to make you think about the tip so its not just a matter of picking Freo (like most supporters will)... it will just mean everyone wont be tipping the same thing for one game every week, more so towards the end.

I think it will make it more interesting, but its just a suggestion

lets face it we care more about the Freo game than any other one so tipping the same every week would detract from the competition.

only question is... would you brag about tipping us when we lost?

The last time I tipped against us was when we won away against Geelong when Sandi kicked a couple of goals (2005??). We were something like $4.50 outsiders that day, but I felt like a real wally tipping against us and the team winning so haven't done it since.

I had thought that we make it a 5pm deadline wa time, unless its an unusual weekend, if easter then it needs to be before the first game. You could either post on the site, or pm me if you don't want people to know your tips.

We could do double for freo games, but again we will just find out what the general consensus is and go with it, I have also been in comps where you get a bonus for 8 right etc.

If we could arrange a sticky for results (or not) I would post weekly results with the round winner/s plus an ongoing ladder.

Double for Freo games seems silly to me. 9 points for tipping 8 I don't have a problem with.

It'll be upto Ripper/Sabre to decide which board it's on and whether it's a sticky. There won't be many new threads on the sub-board once the season starts so if the tipping ends up on there it won't be hard to find the thread whether it is a sticky or not.
