I know I know it doesn't mean anything but f#$k I love when one of our players gets a nomination.

Toby had a great game yesterday, had a lot of score involvements and kicked a vital goal on the run from outside 50. Short week with only 6 games helps, no West Coast and Dom Sheed whinging to worry about. Was better than De Goey but you never know.

Think if it's not McLean it will be someone from Carlton or GC.

Agreed, just posted this in the autopsy thread:

De Goey was good, and I agree that they'll probably give it to him because we had the nomination last week, but I thought McLean's game was more impressive.

De Goey: 7 kicks, 5 handballs, 83.1% efficiency, 2 clangers, 1 mark, 4 tackles, 1 goal.
McLean: 8 kicks, 12 handballs, 80% efficiency, 0 clangers, 7 marks, 1 tackle, 1 goal.

Again I must disagree slightly

Thought he made some awful mistakes and decisions in first half and had a better second half in that respect.

In fact the guy next to me asked who number 16 was, I said that's McLean and his response... He is sh!te.

I'm undecided as of yet haven't seen enough of him personally to make a call one way or another.

Did he say why?
How could they not know who 16 was, unless they were a Saints supporter
Not a very insightful response at all

I must have been watching a different game, I didn't see any real awful mistakes from McLean
Could you provide some examples?

He had a dogs hat on mate so I can't say how much of a supporter the was.

Seemed to know everyone else just not McLean so let's not judge him on that, everyone isn't all over the club and knows all the kids it's not like he been a regular fixture.

I will watch replay and give you a couple of times he made poor decisions but he is a kid I'm not judging him yet as I said I think that's only the second time I've seen him play but he did make at least one whooper I remember the bloke commenting on.

Fair enough, I wonder what you'd call a mistake
remembering that it is easy to know what would have been the best play, after he has made a decision

I saw a few times where he could have put blocks on for team-mates, but a lot of young players are guilty of not doing that or they don't have the size yet to put an effective one on

Some people can tee off on players without much reason.

Happened last year at the VFL qualifying final, the ball landed in front of Honeychurch and bounced back over his head and some idiot whinged about him every time he touched the pill after that, even though he was playing well.

McLean generally disposed of it well, and worked to present more often than most. Given it was only his second full game, it was quite impressive.

Don't trust your mate ;)

Wow , MD , ( hope you don't mind me using your material )
This kid will play 200 games.

Degoey had 12 touches and a goal. Our boy had 20 and a goal.

De goey doesn't even really have a decent body of work behind him, with 7 games and 11 touches a game (3 total goals). Mclean is averaging more touches and goals, despite being the sub in one of his 3 games.

I'm not sure why de goey should be such a lock for the nomination this week.

Degoey is a lock because:
  1. we got a kid nominated last week;
  2. Degoey plays for Collingwood and they are all, by definition, both champions of the future and the darlings of the AFL;
  3. McLean has only played three games and usually nominees have played at least half a dozen;
  4. Degoey plays for Collingwood;
  5. and finally, Degoey plays for Collingwood.

There's enough cynicism in this post that it could qualify as one of mine.

To be fair, I thought it would probably be because he plays for Collingwood, but each to their own.
