Delisted Todd Banfield (2008-2013)

The thing is he was starting to show some physical development at the Ressies final against Mt Gravatt, the summer really was beneficial for him.

Is Todd going to win the award for the rangarest of rangas we've ever had? I mean there is Vossy ranga, and Lambert ranga, but Todd is like the ultimate fluro ranga! The only one I think could give him a go is Brad Hardie. He was a fluro ranga too!

May I present Christian Bale?

He gained 45kg in 6 months. Admittedly, before that he had dropped just shy of 30kg, but it is possible. Some people are just freaks who can gain and drop weight quicker than others.

Quote from his Questionnaire:

The best decision you have made on the football field: To run when I get the footy

From what I saw in the match simulations at training last Friday he certainly does like to run and take on the lines. And it worked very well a number of times. :thumbsu:

Voss

“Todd Banfield is another who is really starting emerge as a small forward - and we haven't had a plethora of those over the last couple of years. That should give him enormous confidence.”

Carlton supporters seemed to be impressed with Banfield:

That kid Banfield was fantastic. Great awareness, clean skills and goes hard when he has to.

Is a ranga mind you- but almost the complete package. Carton of hair dye and he's near perfect.:thumbsu:

The redhead was fun to watch today. Hope he keeps playing, he adds a lot to your forward line.

Can't be bothered reading other pages, but that Ranga kid you guys had playing will be a star! Took on 4 players on the wing and got away then pulled the free kick....showed good signs all day

Based on his first two games, has he earned a spot for round one? I won't say much as I didn't get to see his game against Carlton.

When I did my answers for the 2010 prediction thread a month or so ago I said he was still a year away.

I take that back. Very much in the calculations for round 1 now I'd reckon.

Our last two NAB Challenge squads are likely to be getting closer to resembling our best 22.

If Banfield holds his spot in the next 2 weeks, he's almost certainly in for Round 1.

With the report that Fev gave Banfield 'a spray' for missing him on the lead, I was wondering if kicking may be a bit of a weakness in his game. Can anyone shed any light?

Kicked a very nice goal from 50 against Carton in the practice game running at full speed, IIRC. Don't recall many wasted possessions in that game and didn't see the alleged "spray" either. Maybe because i was playing with my phone. :p

He kicked it straight to a Carlton defender once when trying to get it deeper into the forwardline but that was the only blemish that I noticed on an otherwise very impressive game. His kicking wasn't a highlight but it certainly wasn't bad. Has a real appetite for it.

Small forward role? You're crying out for one, I'm surprised to hear that Rockliff is being developed as a mid.

That little ginger is a gun!

Boomer Harvey like, that goal from 50 after a long run was all class.

Straight in my supercoach team after his performance on friday.

Just make sure he keeps his toggs on in the shower around fev :D

I wonder if Banners would have stood out as much (especially to opposition supporters) without that shock of flame red hair. :D

Regardless, it's hard to not get excited hearing all this. Can't wait to see him in action on Friday.

No, his hair helps but he was a stand out last Friday regardless.

Was very speedy, took the opposition on, was creative and evasive when in trouble and was penetrating with his delivery. I'm excited.

Brown backs Brisbane's best bets

Who are the second- or third-year players who could really step up in Dream Team?
They’ve all been quite impressive. Daniel Rich is a standout. I think he’ll continue to go from strength to strength. He’ll be pretty expensive, of course. Four others that spring to mind are Jack Redden, James Polkinghorne, Tom Rockliff and Tom Collier. They’ve all had really good pre-seasons. Hopefully those guys will play a lot of senior footy this year.

Suprised he didn't mention Banfield??

Final Practise Match vs Hawthorn

Also impressive were the performances of young Lions Todd Banfield and Tom Rockliff who did no harm to their chances of being selected in the senior side for the Club's season opener against West Coast on Saturday 27 March.

Kicked a beauty from as far against the Hawks, in very difficult conditions. Disposal looks good to me.

Todd Banfield makes case for Lions debut in Round 1 AFL clash with West Coast

JET-HEELED Lion cub Todd Banfield has put himself in the frame for a round 1 debut after capping off a fine pre-season with a two-goal effort in an intra-club match. Assistant coach Jade Rawlings, who deputised for Voss last night, confirmed Banfield had jumped right into the mix. "We've been really pleased with him, he has come from nowhere," he said. "He uses his speed and doesn't get overawed and he is certainly in contention."

Voss wants form

Banfield, a standout performer for the Lions across the pre-season, could be in line for an AFL debut, with Voss firmly of the opinion that form over the past few weeks would count more than anything else.

"(Todd) Banfield has popped his head up and Tom Rockliff has done the same - and that starts to put pressure on other players in terms of winning their spot for round one."

Good luck on debut Todd:thumbsu:

Watched the lions / bulldogs preseason game I was blown away with how well Banfield can gather the ball below his knees at seemingly full pace...in slippery conditions nonetheless! Should hold him in very good stead up forward for us this year.

Blistering speed and red hair impresses Voss

Voss said Banfield would not have been in the club’s top 29 players before March, but has come along so fast that he demanded selection, adding a vibrant mix to the Lions forward line. “He certainly adds some blistering speed and at the same time he’s finding the footy, so he has become quite dangerous down there," Voss said.

Banfield is good mates with NAB Rising Star winner Daniel Rich from their days playing junior football in Perth and while Rich has been singing the 19-year-old's praises for some time, it seems the coach was attracted to Banfield’s red hair. “His elevation has been fantastic [and] just to be able to have another ranga join the team is pleasing,” Voss joked. “We don’t play favourites here but it’s hard not to [like the red hair].”
