GWS will eventually have to cut a tall into the future if thats the case. younger kids not getting games will want to start going to other clubs

Definitely.

I'd be pretty surprised if Melbourne did. Their midfield is in such a dire situation you'd surely think they'd try and rectify it, wouldn't you? Have Dawes, Hogan and Clark already.
Never know though, I guess.

You would think that if Boyd is the clear No 1 pick and either GWS or Melbourne finish bottom (certainty), then either club will probably put the No 1 pick up for trade given both have lots of tall forwards.

Melbourne or GWS could probably trade Boyd (Pick 1) for an established mid and a later round 1 pick to one of the top 8 clubs.
 
I've said it a million times on the Bulldogs Board, but looks like I'll have to lecture you numpties as well.

GWS are about a 90% chance to take him at this point in time and they're a 0% chance to trade their #1 pick for anyone bar Naitanui (or a similarly aged elite player). They've proven in the past just how much they value draft picks, and with a gun key forward on offer, there's no way they're going to pass up the chance to take him.

What's this though? GWS already have plenty of talls? Guess what, they'll just cut whoever they need to cut to get a player like Boyd. Patton's done his knee so Jeremy Cameron is pretty much their only sure thing up forward, don't even bother embarrassing yourself by mentioning Setanta. Add to all that, they're packed to the brink in just about every other position.

GWS would waste their time taking him. Cameron, Boyd and Patton in one forward line is too much. They also have Tomlinson and Jaksch. He will go to the dogs IMO

Just out of interest for us "numpties", if Buddy takes the GWS godfather offer what happens then?
 
If they got Buddy( it's an offer to good to refuse)and we finish 16th I'd say its a stronger chance than what it was.
Not getting my hopes up, that's for sure.

If they get Buddy and you finish 16th you'll nab him, we wont take a KPF.
 
If GWS get Pick No. 1, and they seem nearly certain to do so, there's no chance they'll go past Boyd. A key forward like him is worth ten "promising young midfielders" like Aish, Kelly etc. GWS already have plenty in that area anyway. Patton clearly injury prone and not reliable, but a Boyd-Cameron tandem would have GWS set for the next ten years. A Boyd-Cameron-Patton line up would dominate the competition. They won't turn down that opportunity.
 
GWS will absolutely take him, and if they don't the Dees will.

With Patton going down it highlights their need for another KPF. Dogs/Saints only hope is to trade with GWS. Would cost them to much though you'd think.
 
The Demons won't take him, that I'm even more sure of than I am of GWS taking him. They can't afford to take another Key-Forward with their deficiencies in every other position.
 
If GWS get pick 1, they'll take Boyd. They've got a heap of mids, they took Corr and Plowman last year and have a few KPD's, they need to sure up their forward line.

Patton is more your crash and bash FF, Boyd is more a lead-up CHF and they will compliment each other well. Then there's Cameron. Imagine having him as your 3rd tall! It's a salivating prospect and will be too good to resist for the Giants. In a couple of years they will become unstoppable for the rest of the competition, in all areas of the ground. Too bad there will be nobody to see them play up at Skoda.

Like you said Melbourne have issues all over he ground, so we take the best availible. If that is some how because Boyd doesn't go at 1 then so be it. Boyd would allow us to let Clark play in the ruck and replace an ageing Jamar.

Elite KPF don't come along every day, thas why a third of the comp are crying out for them. Who knows might even allow us to trade Dawes or Clark to the highest bidder for an estanblished mid.

If we take Boyd, we would be the most inept club going around.

We don't have issues all over the ground, we have issues in our midfield.

I'm aware e don't have issues all over the ground, I as using his words. Regardless at P2 you always go best availible. Besides who know what can happen, KPF attaract a premium come trade time. See Chris Dawes.

Besides the midfield isn't terrible,we have some tallented players but its just that they are young. I'd rather see us trade Watts for an experienced mid.

I don't think so - about 15 clubs didn't go best available last year when they let Grundy slide to pick 18/19.

We'll just have to agree to disagree I guess.

By every other position, I mean all positions but Key-Forwards. IIRC, one of the reasons Clarke joined Melbourne was so he could play in the forward line and the way he's going, you wouldn't want to take him out of there.

Best available or not, it does not make any sense for Melbourne to take Boyd. They'll take any of Matt Crouch, Luke Dunstan, James Aish or Josh Kelly before Boyd.
