Sounds great in theory but not the same kind of player. Cuts is a metres gained expert. Mcstays a lazy footballer unless its in his direct area.

Dunno..Maybe on last years performance....Reckon, given the opportunity, McStay may give the same result.

I know....but there is no reason why McStay couldn't play the same role.
Theres a few actually.
1. Mcstay is not a line breaker.
2. Mcstays hasnt got the endurance or heart.

Only thing in mcstays favour is he can defend. Take grabs and is accurate by foot.

not sure that's accurate McStay in his junior days was often compared to Harry Taylor, because of his ability to shut down opposition forwards while providing good counter-attack. Pretty handy replacement for Cutler both are still learning their crafts..

We will have to agree to disagree. Mcstay is little like harry taylor. But cuts isnt.

Gee that sucks. He was starting to find some real consistency and continuity in his game the last few weeks, was getting better with each game he played. Wonder who'll fill his spot in the meantime...

Shitty news but looking on the bright side I am confident that we have found a genuine prospect who is going to become a really good player. He could end up being our very own Jason Johannisen type.

The positive is that he has gone from being a fringe player at the start of the season, to now being a player whose injury is such a big loss to the team.

I must admit. He is a strong bugger. Id almost be in tears with an injury like that. He just strolled off and i thought he would come back on.

Lion Beams firming for round seven return

Small forward Josh Green (chest) is "doubtful", while running defender Tom Cutler will be unavailable after dislocating his shoulder.

The Lions are talking to specialists about the best course of action for the 21-year-old, but Francis says the most conservative treatment would have Cutler back in six weeks.

Recovery Report

Defender Tom Cutler is on track in his rehabilitation from a dislocated shoulder sustained in the Lions’ Round 5 loss to the Western Bulldogs. He is expected to return to football in the next fortnight.

“Tom’s going really well. He’s back doing some skills work. “It’s just a matter of making sure his strength is good enough before we put him into contact situations. He’s still probably a couple of weeks away.”

His first 1-2 weeks he spent adjusting to AFL level but once he found his feet he became a real quality player for us and a much needed one at that due to the pace and drive he provides from the back half. Just as he was starting to find his feet at AFL level and look like a genuine AFL standard player entrenching himself in our best 22 he injured his shoulder. I was worried he would take time getting his touch back but credit to him he was straight back into it today. I think Cutler is ready to start producing quality performances on a consistent basis and he will only improve from where he is now in my opinion. We have a gun on our hands.
