Sorry to intrude on your board, but after reading below in an article on Nic Natanui and the effect of his mothers passing. What a wonderful gesture from Tom, much respect to the young man. Quality individual.

Naitanui is finding that the more he shares, verbally, the better it feels. He was moved to tears when the AFL Players Association sent a mass delivery of soup to his home and was deeply touched, last Friday, when a letter from Geelong's Tom Hawkins, who lost his mother earlier this year, arrived.

"It said that he was feeling for me, first and foremost, and just a bit about how he grieved and his experience," Naitanui says. "Most guys will text you, but to write that out in a letter is a big thing."

Could barely read that for the tears.
Yes- that was wonderful of Tom to reach out to Nic. And every time the boys tell their story and reach out, their grief will lessen.
And kudos to the Eagles, too, for having such a great support group behind Nic- particularly with sending someone back home with him to back him up while he wouldn't be able to think straight. And for their understanding that sometimes there are things that are more important than a football game.

Good luck to you all for the finals.

Beautiful by Tom and best wishes to Naitanui. It was heartbreaking to see him in tears at the siren last night. Would love to see him win a flag this year to honour his mother.

A truly beautiful, heartfelt gesture of compassion by Tom.

Electronic media is so impersonal, and to take the time to write the words he did shows the sincerity behind them.

Proud of Tom, feeling for Nic, and hoping the Eagles can acknowledge his mum by reaching the summit.

Dealing with incredible grief while knowing you are the most important part of your teams premiership assault.
Great strength so far. All the best to him for the next month.
And beautiful gesture by Tom. So much sadness in footy this year but lots of people reaching out to each other too.

I came to your board to see if there was a place to express some gratitude to Tom Hawkins for reaching out to Naita. Heart wrenching report on his grief since his Mother's death but deeply comforting to know that there is such a good connection between players in this cutthroat competition.

Kudos to Tom.

He is a good egg our Tom... fantastic gesture to NicNat

Was heartbreaking seeing the emotions of Nic after the game, I can't even begin to imagine how tough it's been on him (and on Tommy this season)

Truly classy gesture from Tom Hawkins, he's a quality individual.

Grief is such a strange thing, we've all suffered it but you never really know how someone will deal with it until the time comes. It's not a linear process to get back- he missed a few games, kicked a goal in his first game back and you might think that he's back and ready to go. And then you see the scenes last night and realise that as soon as he's not focusing on footy he's back to thinking about his loss. Tommy Hawkins must have been the same, it's great to get back playing and take your mind off things, but the healing takes a lot longer than that.

I hope a few Hawkins knockers just take a step back and consider the depth of emotions that he had to deal with this season. NicNat's reaction illustrated just how hard it is, even some time after the passing. No doubt Tom Hawkins went through the same process.

Tom's gesture was top shelf.

Yeah namely triple m adl
, dale lewis n andrew jarman quite often veiwed him as the most over rated fwd/player in the comp

Its the sort of club ethic we value and foster.

CharacterFirst.

Funnily enough you were the first poster I thought of when I read this - we will rise again soon but qualities like Tom has exhibited last forever and will serve him well in life irrespective if there is another Flag or more on the horizon.

Should more of a indication of Tom's character rather than something to brag about the club.

It was a good gesture and does show that you can set aside professional rivalries to support one another in difficult times.

Hoping for the Eagles to win this year.
