We have had some stellar people in and around the club over recent years. And Domsy is yet another one of them. When he speaks, you hear a very knowledgeable person and also a quality person, who clearly has so much time for the club and its people.

Another great appointment for mine. You can't have too many people of Tom's calibre in your organisation.

imo he and the other two coaches cut from Carlton are taking the hit for the Blue's poor season rather than Voss. They want someone moved on so they can claim change but decided it couldn't be Voss himself

edit: compared to the other two, it seems he left for the better opportunity. Other two are the patsies

Head of Coaching Performance and Innovation Aaron Greaves and assistant coach Aaron Hamill will depart IKON Park, alongside Development and Talent Manager Tom Lonergan, who has informed the Club he has taken an opportunity elsewhere.

Damn he was just an absolutely rock solid no frills defender. You could just trust week in week out that he would do a job.

Severely underrated player.

Apparently this is confirmation we have no soft cap just as we apparently have no salary cap
We do have soft caps..

We'll be having the MAFLGA (Make AFL Geelong Again) soft caps, signed by Tom Harley, on sale starting today.

Goes well with your previous MAFLGA soft cap signed by Steve Hocking.

Show your Richmond Membership for a special discount. Or use code "TigesTragic" at checkout.

Hurry! Sale ends soon!

Unheralded player who blanketed some of the best of his era - not sure Buddy ever got on top of him which was one of the reasons we went on that undefeated run of 11 games after 2008
During that magic week leading up to the '07 GF, Lonergan was on his comeback trail and kicked six in the VFL Grand Final. Broke down in tears when accepting the Norm Goss Medal.

Likewise, we were there, and Tommy could hardly speak; laryngitis or something, but many were in tears.

Yes he was.. but geez he’d get shit on here too..
whipping boy levels too..

Glad now he gets what he deserved

He also IMO has the best nickname in the game. Not some generic, lazy rhyme, an actual nickname unique to him. :thumbsu:
DOMSY?
Many players get DOMS, but the extent that Lonergan would have had it was right up there.

Speaking of great nicknames, always loved the Waugh brothers.
Steve- TUGGA- abbreviation of tug of war, due to his tenacity
Mark- JUNIOR- the second born twin, but was also called AFGHAN, when Steve was getting games well ahead of Mark's debut- the forgotten war (WAUGH )

I'm sure Andrew Mackie will have had good things to say about this appointment.

Yeah, when I first saw that I had to look it up. Really paints a picture of the guy and the routines, in a fun way.

Remember seeing a replay with this guy who closed down a few plays with speed to the contest.I had to look up who was wearing number 13. Tommy Lonergan! I knew he was a good defender but his closing speed surprised me. Underrated defender…

Does this put Mackie and Lonergan working in similar roles, just like they did on the field?

Mackie more deals with list management and trades and lonergan is more filling the scouting role that we had vacant after obree went to Collingwood. But yes similar roles.

Think the biggest cheer of the day was when he uttered "This is the best day of my life" when giving a speech after winning the BOG award.
