Tom Morello VS Slash

Slash's technically wizardry is something to behold, but Tom Morello can do things with a guitar that few others, if any, can do, so he has uniqueness going for him.

Tom Morello is the most inventive guitarist I've ever heard. RATM are arguably the only ones to have successfully done the "rap-metal" thing, and a big reason is him, he basically plays the axe like a set of turntables. And he can shred as well (check the solo in Know Your Enemy) but it doesn't really fit their music all that well.

Slash is a great player too, no question, but I'm voting Morello.

Slash - tasteful soloist, could shred and use gimmickry on occassion (i.e - on the end of Nightrain and on Anything Goes), but who often played his solos in accordance to the song (in other words, I can't really think of a Slash solo which doesn't suit the Guns N' Roses song in question).

Morello used gimmickry (turntables, etc.) a lot more than Slash and was more inventive, but his solos didn't seem to captivate you as much. Slash it is.

every single noise on a rage record is made from drums, guitar and bass.. common myth that they use turntables etc. thats how good morelli is.. you'd swear he was using dj equipment at times

This should be a no contest. Why would Rolling Stone have Tom Morello rated number 26 in their best 100 guitarists of all time and Slash as,well, somewhere in the 100 plus area?

probably means nothing. do you have the list? can you tell me the top 50?
im assuming that the list is inaccurate.

slash is a better guitarist and has produced better songs but Morello is a freak with his heavy riffs and 'strange solos'

That's a good list you posted there. The Rolling Stone one sounds like a load of rubbish, Kurt Cobain above Eddie Van Halen, that's a classic!

These lists are very subjective anyway, I don't even know really what "best" guitarist is meant to mean anyway.
