Whats the opinion of those in the know about Tom Williams being a 1st round selection ?
We have discussed the pros and cons about selecting him at number 6 on the Doggies board a number of times and now GH has bumped him up to that selection on his Footydraft.

Would he be worth a top 6 selection for the Dogs ?

He certainly seems like a Scott Clayton type pick and the Dogs need to get some additional KPP so it has always seemed to be a possible selection for us.

Thoughts ?

Williams has only had 12 months of football coming over from a rugby backgrouns and is very raw. He is very much in the Tadgh Kennelly mode at this stage and still has a lot to learn. In 3 years time I can see him as a tall running defender like Kenneally only bigger. Skills are good considering he is from rugby and athleticllay he is outstanding. A bit of a project but one that might reap rewards.

I think the comparison with Kennelly is a good one. The one knock on Williams is that whilst he has KP height he has not really been tested as a potential KP player.

He does have a lot to learn but because he has played a fair bit of contact sport already he could make the transition quickly. His skills are sound and he already is a long kick but the question about if he is a genuine number 6 selection remains.

Queensland has this big kid Brad Moran as well. He is 6'7" and broke the record for the 20m sprint at the camp. He is a pom that has only been in Australia for 2 years. He may end up a huge surprise come draft time.

Plus : He is tall quick and atheltic.
Minus : His kicking is lousy, he has not played at a high level.

I don't know when he might be taken but I'd suggest that he is not a typical Scott Clayton pick. Clayton tends to go for atheltic guys who are physically underdeveloped that is true, but he also seems to emphasis foot skills.

Agree with Weaver - Clayton seems to focus on 'skilful' players who will develop physically - I dont see Williams at pick 6...
