I was just wondering will he get drafted this year under the f/s? Or is he too small?
Post your thoughts (or ignore it if you think it is a stupid thread or has been done b4)

They are giong to have to make some big decisions cause
they have got a few to choose from next year to go under the
father son eg: sheldon,johnston,harmes,williams

they better get it right

Sam Sheldon seems to be the one. Tomi Johnston is quite small and that may count against him. Probably Williams might be a second round draft if Sydney don't take him.

Anyone know what Will Fitzpatrick is doing?

We let a Williams (diesel) go once before and it cost a fortune to get him back, would hate to see history repeated. Sheldon is young and could hold off nominating for another 12 months, and johnston could be rookie drafted(providing no one else takes him) as he is a bit light on at the moment and that way we keep him and hope he develops. Which ever way the club goes there are going to be supporters who are disapointed.

yep, thats right. We have heaps of options to make via the father/son selections.

What we have to do is make sure we select due to the clubs needs, and not to the sentimentality of thier fathers greatness.

As ive heard, Sheldon IS young and maybe we can convince him to hold off for a year later to be included in our list.

Sure, Diesel was a superstar and one of my faves of all time, but he was a bit too short and slow to be playing league footy today. Its all about athleticism, and speed now, sad but true. He has to be able to match it with the competition in the modern era.

Would be great to have another johnson wearing the no.7 again at carlton, what a story it would be! But no use thinking too hard at this stage, we need talent mainly in ruck and defence, so we must strive to get it.

We really need to make sure we don't make the same mistake with Tomi that Melbourne made with his old man. The Dominator was a slightly late developer, who Melbourne sent packing. He then had a dominant season with Prahran in the VFA (played in their '78 premiership) before we snapped him up and we all know how he went. The question is would the club be prepared to used a 3rd round pick on him in what is allegedly going to be a super draft? It will be a tough call, but I would hate to see him running around in anything but the navy blue & white.

None of our Father/Son's have made the national carnival squads for Vic Metro or Vic Country for those interested.

I've got a feeling they might try and get Sam to sit-out until next year at this point.

That's a good point OZ, and one that I certainly hadn't considered.

David Dickson (Vic Metro Coach) was talking to KB on SEN a couple of days ago, and said Tomi Johston is a very good player, but is also very small and may struggle at Senior AFL level.

I know Tomi has been going down to the club for medicals, and what not, this past year so I'd suspect we'll take him late or as a rookie.
