"VFL coach Leigh Tudor said Tom Hawkins would probably make his return from a foot injury in next week’s clash with Port Melbourne, quashing rumours of a season-ending injury."

Might still be some hope for seniors finals footy

Lonners is doing OK, yet my preferences would be Hawkins come finals time given his dukes.

He has such clean hands and is decent in a one on one situation as opposed to Lonners who struggles.

On the flip side, Lonners can be thrown back if needed.

IMO, a fit Hawkins should be ahead of Lonners come finals time.

My observation is that Hawkins drops a lot of marks he should take. Doesn't seem to judge the timing and flight that well. Especially the timing. He's nowhere near experienced enough for finals.

Can't agree. Hawkins is stronger but he still drops too many and is not judging his leaps all that well. Plus he just does not seem to function as well in our forward set up right now as Lonergan. I can't see Hawkins playing ones again this year.

On the other hand - Hawk adds a really good dose of angry pills to our forward line - something which Tommy L doesn't. The big man gets pretty fired up and I personally think the finals are just what he needs to really get going and take a game by the scruff of the neck.

He most certainly has clean hands... think back to the early parts of the season when you saw him running at full pace and marking the ball out in front of his face, first grab.

When have you ever seen Lonners do this? He rarely marks anything off his chest. When the season highlights come out, you'll realise this.

I am not bashing Lonners as i think he is great, yet i think he is being carried by a fantastic side and firmly believe that Hawkins offers far more, being X-Factor and the potential to tear a game apart. Unfortunatly, Lonners does not have this.

Hasn't played enough. No doubt they'll play him if Moons or Lonners is injured, but failing that I really doubt they'll throw him straight into finals footy with only a small handful of VFL games under his belt since June.

Against Melbourne.... who cant?

Right now you're being a damn pain. You can only beat your opponent. He has kicked another lazy four in what are fairly tough conditions for a big man. Pulled off a ripper reverse banana too.

Fair enough you like Hawkins (we all do) and want him in the team but Tom is doing more than enough. Tom now has 23 goals from his 10 matches (that goals per game average is on par with SJ and Mooney) and is averaging around 11 disposals and 5 marks a game. Slandering him to make Hawkins look better is poor.

Well with Hawkins not yet back from injury, there is no cause for concern.

Tom is doing his job, though a week or so ago had taken his foot off the pedal. I'm glad to say he is back on track and looking like a target in the forward 50m.

I'm really happy for Tom, it is a great news story and I just hope that he carries his momentum into the finals. I'd hate to see him replaced in a big game if he runs out of form and Hawkins is fit.
