What did everyone think of tonights match. A few highlights for us were that man Voss, how good is he. Also that mark by Copeland over Hall, now thats courageous or foolish.A few of the youngens will be better for the run.I liked Brennan and Pratt.

Congrats on the win. I was watching the scores under the non-live Power scores, looks like you had it good all the way. Good luck for the rest of the Cup!

campbell if I had FOX Footy I would've watched it for sure but i don't so i couldn't.
I saw few of the highlights on Sky News/FOX News and we looked pretty good seeing as we had a few players out and Leigh not there.
Voss, Akermanis, Lynch and a few of the young-guns looked fantastic!

Caracella was okay.Voss was magic. After watching the Practice match last week, the guys last night, looked like they were playing backyard footy, if you know what I mean.Last Friday they meant business, last night looked like fun for them.

I thought Pratt and Brennan would play senior footy this season.

Bolton for Sydney, our reject was his usual inept self, prior to having done a groin. I can't see him cementing a place in a good team.Sydney he probaly will though,as they were woeful. You gotta feel for Roos, if you aint got the cattle.

Voss is definately shaping up for an awesome season. He definately has my money for the Brownlow.

Actually about halfway through the game Iwas thinking gee our guys aren't preforming as well as I thought they would. Then the commentator listed all the players missing - I can't believe how many I had forgotten.

Season's looking good from here.......

We had a plethora of strong performers last night. Al was at his wrestlemaniac best (I reckon its illegal, but as long as he gets away with it...); Bushie was a desperado; Brad Scott is adding flair to his game to complement his toughness; Sir Richard Hadley (that's Richard Hadley, number 14, for the benefit of tapestry and SpecialBruce) had the ball on a string after coming off the bench; Chris Johnson was dashing and impassable; Shattock's gone up at least half a notch on last year; Voss was Voss.

I reckon Pratt is good enough to play ones - shame it will take a long term injury to a senior list player for him to get a chance. Very strong performer.

Jared Brennan. Had five or six kicks - each one a clanger. Mentioned it elsewhere: he's going to be a gun, but... Certainly can't afford to play him at halfback at this stage of his development.

Overall, the standard of the game was fairly poor (not to mention the performance of the Orange People). Once the Lions put the cue in the rack after half time the match descended into a series of rugby scrums, turnovers and fumbles. Not great viewing but it gave some of our youngsters a good opportunity to get some ground time at "senior" level.

Thanks and commiserations once again.

Yeah, pity I couldn't see the game guys, but it looks like Voss is going to have a good year and the young players look to be alright. Barnesy was much much much better than watching Brisbane play. Barnesy over footy anyday.

Why thankyou Ripper, you're such a good man! I would have known it was Richard Hadley you were talking about anyway.

its great to see lynch looking THIS good THIS early in the season

Yeah Emu did most of the rucking after Crackers' foot went on him again during the warm up. Did OK without setting the world on fire. McLaren played a bit on the ball too. Looked lively.

didnt you call someone a w@nker on the main board for suggesting the same thing?

yeah i thoguht that the boys played @ about 70% in the 1st half & then reduced that to about 50% (or less) after that.. but we didnt need to play any harder anyway..... i was sitting @ the ground & momma said... who is gonna get the 1st 9 pointer & i said pratty before even seeing where he was lining up & if he was on the field at all.....& then... even though it wasnt a 9..he got the 1st goal & this was just the start to what i thought was a great game by young pratt. i was pleased how gary let each player have a decent amonut of time on the field. when i saw that grammy (Jason L Gram #7) & boofa (Jarrad T Wright #24) were on the bench as well as Sir Richard (whom ripper has already introduced to the group) i was thinking to myself... please give them a decent go & gary did that... as we knew he would. I thought that they did pretty good. Boofa had a few good tackles & u sure can tell the players who have played in the reserves recently - they are the best sheparders(SP) around. Jared Brennan did some good things as well... but as ripper said.. he didnt use the ball very well when he did get it... & he made a few mistakes in the 2nd half but we all have to learn sometime. I thought that richie was great & then i thoguht it may have just been the number of my jumper soaking into my skin that made me think that but then i saw the actual disposals....he ended up with one less than the man vossy(im sure we all know who that is) & didnt have as much field time. I thought that Bushies goal was great i dunno if u could see it on the tele.. but he has just come onto the field & basically took teh mark & then followed through with the goal. I was happy to see Dylan's straight kicking. I thought that when he was taken out of the ruck & played around the ground he did well tackling very well...

well i will be back for more of the rundown ron ( this is a short way of saying later on)

Best were Michael, Voss, Lynch, Pratt, Charman, Leppitsch, Johnson and Power.

Mal Michael did not put a foot wrong all night. He dominated Barry Hall for most of the game. Vossy was in frighteningly good form for this time of year. He just dominated. Would have been best on ground if he could kick straight for goals. Lynch was quiet for the first quarter, but then lit up with six in the second. His opponent, Schauble was unlucky on one occasion but just outplayed for the other five goals. Leppa and Johnno looked about 95% and were rocks in defence. Power was everywhere and apart from one or two wayward kicks looks in match form.

All the other regular seniors looked very good. Aka kicked a couple of goals from difficult set shots, Brad Scott got a lot of the ball, Black did some good things although didn't get quite as much of the ball as we are used to from him.

Daniel Pratt was a revelation - he got a ton of the ball, made space and ran all night. A promising start, but being on the rookie list he has all the work ahead of him.

As for the other newbies, Caracella did some good things, nothing spectacular but played all over the ground and seemed to fit in well with our style of play. Hadley played very well when given a run in the second half, again nothing too spectacular but solid. The Age listed him as amongst our best but I didn't think he stood out that much. Brennan did several good things and certainly looks to have the physical presence for senior football but made a few mistakes which let him down. Rushed kicks, handballs into opponents etc. He'll learn qucikly, though. Dylan McLaren did well in the ruck, where he spent quite some time.

Overall, it was actually reasonably close to the form we'd be aiming for in round one. There were a few bad kicks straight to opponents, a few hurried handballs and a couple of players who tried to take on too many opponents, but the running was very good and the pressure was excellent. Just no one get injured over the next month and we should have a good start to the season.

im so happy that pratty had such a good game. does this mean that ppl will come to training & sit in the "club atmosphere" down @ coorparoo or that you will come to the ressies game & see some of the teen lions program in action. just to keep up in the know about pratty. & for those of you not nearby, if u still care about his progress we can update you about the bigfella.

I thought Pratt was great. Looks like he doesn't mind putting a few tackles in here and there. Should be more of it.
Nice work Daniel.

Thankyou very much keatings_gal.
Yes I'm new here, I didn't know about this site till my friend showed me.
Ahh, yes I'm a bit of a Lions fan, but I like all kinds of other sports as well. This site is great for all sports in general, looking forward to checking it all out.
As for me, well not to bore you too much I'm from Ballina and at present I'm staying with some friends in Brisbane for about 8 weeks or so. Loving it so far. Might even go to a game of footy while I'm here.
