Let's hear your Tony Free Stories...without Prejudice

I think it's only fair for people to share their accounts of meeting/seeing Toni Free out and about.

Discuss.

but did he splash your shoes ?

If so,he doesn't deserve to be on the board:D

Re: Let's hear your Tony Free Stories...without Prejudice

Went out to dinner with him one night with Hoggy, Tim Powell, Leysy, Todd Menegola and Matty (forgot his name, but he went to the Pies I think - skinny ruckman lol)

Had dinner at Shanikas in Richmond, went to a club in town, played a bit of pool with Hoggy, got a tonguie in both ears from Leysy and Powelly lol and had a great night :D

Tony was great - they all were!

Haven't got any bad stories. Was my favourite player of that era, so I like him, believe it or not!

Ran into him twice when I was out drinking. Both times I engaged him in drunken conversation, and both times he was very cool. I don't know if he was drunk, but certainly not as much as I was and he handled the situation very well.

The freezer loves a drink mate so I'd say he was pissed as well.

Met him at Silvers years back. Launch of some activewear he was involved with (BUM I think was the label). Very nice bloke. Bought me a beer, chatted about the Tiges (we stank, but had recently had a fine win) and wished him well.

Run into him a couple of times since in more formal surroundings and carried himself well and very courteous

schwab, likely sucessor to Miller

Starting to add up why we moved so hastily and March let slip there were other clubs EG .Melbourne fishing in the same pond.....extract from The Australian ....

RICHMOND's future football operations head may belong to the club's past, with former chief executive Cameron Schwab yesterday linked to the position that was taken from Greg Miller on Sunday.

Schwab, who is due to return to Victoria early next week after seven years as Fremantle chief executive, has been touted as a potential successor to recently sacked Melbourne chief executive Paul McNamee. But the Demons may have to vie with the Tigers, who are understood to have an interest in bringing the 44-year old-back to Punt Road. ...........

I dont mind this fella , rang me some 20 years ago after I sent the club a letter, now thats service:eek:

Re: schwab, likely sucessor to Miller

I don't mind Cameron Schwab either, but what's his footy knowledge like? I know he's good with the figures and such, but I thought he was more of a CEO and not a footy director or whatever the role is called?

Need to find it !!!

Got to send it back to the club if they employ that halfwit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Let's hear your Tony Free Stories...without Prejudice

Mine is not so good. He was working for Octogon - a player management company many years ago and we were due to have a meeting about a consumer promotion that would be linked to a brand I was working on. The other guy turned up and said Freezer would not be coming in a family member (I think brother)was involved in an accident and I think may have passed away. It was horrible, really sad.

But from all accounts, sounds like a great guy.

If my memory serves me correctly Schwab was Recruiting Manager at Melbourne for a couple of years around 1986-87 before joining Richmond as CEO in 1988. This was right at the start of the draft being implemented. As CEO of Richmond he always had a very strong focus on recruiting and understanding the draft system.
