List Mgmt. Too Many Small Forwards

Here are out Small Forwards at the Moment(Can play There):

  • Broomhead
  • Elliot
  • Fas
  • Wells
  • Blair
  • Aish
  • Varcoe
  • Crocker
Then you have Daicos and Brown as they start as Small Forwards.

That Seems way too many but Most of the Can go Thru the Midfield or become Full Time Mids.

Wells, Aish and Varcoe are a stretch

Wish and Wells could be but Varcoe plays fair bit Forward

Aish, Wells and Varcoe aren't forwards, Crocker is a medium. There's half your list gone. Broomhead and Brown both have the scope to move in to the midfield too. I don't think we should stress too much about being overloaded with small forwards when none of them are genuine crumbers except Daicos who isn't even listed yet.

Of that list I would only have Blair as a small forward. The rest are half forward/mid types.

It's a versatile list yet we still lack a genuine crumber. With a lack of KPF Elliott, Fasolo and Crocker are important as marking forwards who play larger than their height. Wells and Varcoe have the ability to play midfield or at half back and I'd prefer them in those positions. Broomhead and Aish are yet to establish themselves. Broomhead will be used forward, but with time will move into the midfield, Aish I see as a flanker or wing.

Overall it's good that we've got a variety of options, you can never have too many goal kickers.

Watched a few Daicos videos and haven't seen him crumb at all, where is this crumbing Daicos coming from? Did I miss a highlight?

He crumbed a bit in that all stars Judd v O'Loughlin game but they were through the midfield type gathers off packs and not any goals. I think draft watchers say he can crumb.

Just out of interest what do people class as a crumb? Any ground type gather that's turned into a goal or does it have to be a gather off a spill from a pack?

I reckon if it's the latter there is only one or two of those a game (per side).

Traditionally speaking.... crumbing is gathering a spill off a pack... These days it's not as important as it used to be for the small forward.. but still a useful attribute.

The opposite to how Blair plays! Oh dear, sorry that is terrible!

Is there anyone other than Betts who excels at this skill? I guess Walters and to a lesser extent Rioli.

It's hard to think of many of them.

Not many.. Leon Davis was our best in recent times and he didn't get that many "crumbs". Ablett jnr when he plays forward and Lecras are good exponents.

Pretty strange thread, TD, we definitely don't have too many small forwards! Good luck for Friday with the Welcome to Collingwood threads, hope you get a few in, draft day is my favourite day of the whole year!!

Yet not a single one of them is the kind of small forward we actually desperately need.

Hopefully Daicos fills that need.

Agreed except I wouldn't class any of them as small forwards.

Some are mids who spend time forward, others are vertically challenged linking forwards and as has been mentioned none of them have a clue how to consistently hit front and centre.

My issue though is I look at all of them and can't say with confidence that we can get 2 goals a game out of any of them. My minor criticism is that regardless of type if you play forward of centre you must be able to hit the scoreboard regularly.

Its all ahead of them though so hopefully one or two of the guys that actually play forward can find that ability! That said there is some merit to TD's core message that we shouldn't draft Brown or Daicos ;)

Apex36 has been watching the wrong Daicos highlights. Mistaken Peter for Josh.
Just wait and see. I'll wager I've seen more of Daicos than you and Kappa combined.
