Just an observation that we go in far too top heavy against sides.. THERE COULD BE a cpl moved around but the point stands

Carlton

Tall
Lachie Henderson
Matthew Kreuzer
Rob Warnock
Jeremy Laidler
Nick Duigan
Bret Thornton

Medium
Ryan Houlihan
Zach Tuohy
Mitch Robinson
Heath Scotland

Small
Aaron Joseph
Chris Judd
Chris Yarran
Jeffrey Garlett
Bryce Gibbs
Kade Simpson
Eddie Betts
Andrew Walker
Marc Murphy
Brock McLean
Marcus Davies
David Ellard

Melbourne

Tall
James Frawley
Colin Garland
Joel Macdonald
Jared Rivers
Jack Watts
Max Gawn
Stef Martin

Medium
James Strauss
Jordan Gysberts
Brad Green
Jeremy Howe
Lynden Dunn
Matthew Bate

Small

Clint Bartram
Jack Trengove
Jordie McKenzie
Aaron Davey
Tom Scully
Ricky Petterd
Brent Moloney
Nathan Jones
Luke Tapscott

and to add to it davey and the scully are the only 2 with genuine leg speed

Davey looks like he's running in gumboots, that side has no leg speed at all, the fastest players are Watts and Frawley, watching guys like Bate run is rather depressing.

Surely Petterd should be in the medium category? But otherwise you're right though we all know it all too well. The fact is our recruiting has missed a few key areas over the years and those areas are:

1. Small guys with speed
2. A big forward target

We're running one too many tall backs (Rivers needs to go IMO) and a few too many medium forwards (Bate is gone, Dunn is barely hanging on and Green is offering nothing). If we could switch those 4 players for 1 tall forward and 3 small runners we would be laughing.

sounds about right, hopefully with the preseason wonna and bennell/maric can take 2 of those small spots..

Duigan (186cm) and Laidler (189cm) are hardly talls. We have midfielders taller than that. You have Judd as a small and he is the same height at Laidler.

mate i dont know the exact heights of every player.. i factored in how they play... judd plays as a small and duigan and laidler play as talls..

It doesnt take much effort to look them up, its not classified. Anyway its not a hanging offence but your thinking is a little flawed. We are 2 tall players short at the moment, Jamison and Waite. Both will return to the side and none of the actual talls on your list (of our talls, Hendo, Knockers, Kruze and Thornton) will be dropped to make way for them. Most teams would go in with 6 genuine talls. 2 rucks, 2 foward and 2 back. I dont know your players, but you list 7 talls so if you are top heavy it would only be by 1 player.

im not so much complaining about the amount of genuine talls, more so the lack of genuine smalls.. we have far too many blokes who fall somewere in the grey area between tall and small

I think I know what you're trying to say Nick. Our established, if not senior, talls aren't tall enough or big enough. Rivers and MacDonald can't play man-on-man on any proper full forwards, Garland is injury prone and Frawley is both our best rebounder and our best key defender.

Meanwhile, we lack anyone who can play a quick, crumbing role all day. We only have makeshift mid-sized forwards like Petterd, Green, Jurrah etc. Bennell and Jetta aren't even forwards, Maric can't seem to string games together and Wonna's had mental and physical problems in the last few years.

yeah mate you summed it up alot better than i ever could
we have too many players who cant play on genuine smalls or talls.. and 2 or 3 of them are ok but we have 8-12

were basically going in every week without a crumbing forward....and we cant shut down those little tip rat forwards, frawleys the best at it and he is supposed to be FB, and if he goes to the small we end up with rivers on a KPF and he gets flogged time and time again
