I've always rated him as an unsung hero who is one of our good players.. but lately when i focus on him he isnt playing well... no outstanding athletic abilitys and dodgy skills (disposal and marking)... Assuming no defenders retire and we get a fit N.Brown plus maybe somone else we draft is Tooveys spot in the team in serious jepody?
 
Unfortunately I'd have to agree, with N Brown returning and taz can play on a smaller player yeh Tooves could be in trouble, but if Leon does go then he will keep his spot I'd say, unless Rounds comes on real strong in pre-season.
 
Nah, Tooves had a pretty bad GF, but as one scribe said in the paper, he actually didn't make any howlers (big mistakes) during the game.

He was still rarely beaten one on one, it's just some of his though processes when he got the ball seemed a little rushed.

He has credits in the bank, he was brilliant in our premiership push last year, and great for most of 2011, so I'll forgive him for one bad game, even if it was in a Grand Final.

Young and Brown? also maybe a draft pick we pick up inthe next few weeks. Maybe even rounds.

Also he did make a few howlers... remember when he let johnson get 20 metres on him and johnson got it with noone near him and dribbled it home? Also when he was running outa defence and just bombed it straight to 3 geelong players who then ran in a goaled. Mighta been more but i can remember those
 
Fair go. He really put is as he always does. His kicking has always been dodgy, and probably always will be. He is not the distributor, he is the shut down man.

With the press n stuff nowadays coaches know all the defenders need to have a good kick.. toovey kills us with turnovers after runs.

And his not such a great shut down man when u look at it... he sometimes gets one of their worst forwards too.

His similair to young, except young offers way more on the offensive side.

I would much rather Brown than toovey atm... but who knwos with browns body if his gonna have a career
 
His decision making has improved a heap over the past few years but unfortunately that didn't really show yesterday. Looked really shaky and very nervous with the ball in hand.

He was in immaculate form early on in the season before he got knocked out by Hawkins, that and the hand injury seem to have affected his form in the latter part of the year.

He is a pure shut down defender but he definitely still needs to work on his poise, if such a thing is able to be worked on.
 
his fine we lost yesterday because the team in most was underdone not because of indivdual mess ups... we were in a pickle and we got rosted in the end... the boys tanks were empty and quite a few were carring injuries at the wrong time of year so we paid for it... the boys new it hence no big tears were shed... just hope were in better shape next year and were half a chance :)
 
Are people seriously questioning whether Toovey should be in the side? He's our best shut down medium/small defender, has pace and great defensive skills, puts his body on the line and can also cover taller players. Plus he's only 24. He had a great run down of Varcoe (of all players) running through the centre corridor, he's one of the first picked in our defence, nobody else plays the shut down role like he does. He'd be a walk up starter to any side in the comp.

I think I'm going to need to stop coming to this board.

So far we've delisted:
Chris Dawes
Alan Didak
Alan Toovey

We should scrap the team and elevate the seconds at this point. Toovey is a great one on one contester, and has been for the past 2 seasons. His skills aren't even that poor, people just fixate on single points in games which any player has.
 
He is prone to brain fades with disposal but ill take that every day of the week as opossed to the guys he's usually on kicking multiple goals without Tooves.

Vital player and no way in hell would he be going anywhere.
 
Lol Toovey is our best shut down small defender.

That's probably the only thing he has but it is damn worthy.

His kicking skills have come from horrible to decent. It's not amazing like Davis but it's just average, at least he can now hit the target and not shank them (although GF he was horrible). I would rank his decision making is the same.

Anyway, Toovey's role isn't to amass a huge amount of possessions, his role is to shut down whoever his opponent is and he does that every single week.
 
he normally has to shutdown an osborne or grey... his not that vital. When he was on johnson he got carved to shreds

He never loses his feet, his man never kicks a bag....... yeah, he sucks get rid of him.

Some people have no idea, every player doesn't have to have 30 pos. Players have roles, Toovs is to shut down his opponent, like a smaller Presti. Other guys like Harry, Shaw and Leon try to run off their opponent as much as they can, without Toovs and Taz playing tight those guys can't run off.

All these people saying get rid of Dawes, Didak, Toovs, Jolly. Do any of the gurus have a suggestion for who replaces them?
 
blaze a bit of what you're posting lately is a little bit trollish. Toovey has become a star, and severely broke a knuckle this year. as did dawesy, and dids never got going. Just let them all have a pre season, and then sit back and enjoy.
The early markets have us flag favourites for 2012, it's as if they know that our season was hampered by injury, underdone blokes and distraction inside the club in all corners.
 
Nathan has said he wants to focus on good users of the ball, which would put a LOT of players under the pump is Bucks is true to his word.

Toovey and Johnson would be the main culprits. Horrible users of the ball. Especially Toovey.

Needs to be traded, and hopefully it's not too late and we don't lose the Sack.
