I know the top teams at the end of the season should not be the top teams now. Many may have used two trades each week and may fall apart towards the end of season and many will stuff up the bye structure etc etc. But to win you still have to pass these teams so I decided to have a look at the each and looks to where I can gain ground.

Firstly there are many players that are in every team and as such (if you have them) you can not look at catching them with these players.

Every team in the top 10 had the following players.
A.Okley
K.McIntosh
D.McKenzie
N.Fyfe
R.Gray
D.Martin
A.Saad
N.Krakour
D.Swan

Other players that were in almost all teams (7/10 or more)
H.Shaw (8)
S.Pendlebury (9)
J.Kennedy (7)
A.Vandenburg (7)
T.Goldstien (9)
M.Cox (8)
M.Clark (7)
R.Tarrant (8)

I was surprised at the differences though. There are 87 different players used in these top 10 teams.

The most unique team was in fact team coming tenth. Which is one of our own members. He has 6 players that are not in any of the other top 10.

So make of all this what you will, I personally will look at where I can be different without losing too much more ground. Others will need to jump on some of the players listed above to stop losing points. Others will try and aviod some of these players hoping they fail and they can catch up that way. Whatever strategy you come up with good luck with it because after this week we all know how much luck is involved.

what weirds me out is that I have almost all of those players - but I'm +13000th  It's disheartening when you have 28/30 players in common with the top teams but you are miles behind on score

Sometimes the difference between top 10 and top 10 thousand seems to be little more than fielding the best rookies each week and making good captain choices.

Yeah, I have 13 of those 17 players too, but my ranking stinks.
The rookies listed are no surprise as they were all amongst the best money making options. I have all of them too. What does surprise me is that there are only 3 prem players common to all teams and only a further 4 prem players common to at least 7 teams. Of those 7 prems I have only 4. Maybe that's my problem.

Good OP.

M.Cox? Clearly those teams didn't read krk004's excellent preseason analysis of loophole options.

Cheapest of all the DPP rucks.....

Other loopholes open up pretty quick. I had 7 non playing players to choose from this week alone(hopefully back to 3 this week tho)

Thats the difference between starting those player and bringing them in.

Bigfooty is a bit of an SC Trap for most of us...
Everyone listens to each other and follows each others ideas and concepts around players and structure etc., so everyones teams feel pretty similiar for the most part.

Outside of the bonafied guns... Rookies, C Choice, value for money & the POD's are where the difference is made up.

Thats true, but people should be looking at these forums as discussion points, rather than purely advice.

If you are looking at a player, but cant decide, dont just ask someone here and wait for an answer, look for an explanation and a bit of debate and weigh up the pros and cons.

Everyone here is guilty of just offering an opinion without anything to back it up, which is fine, go with your gut, but if all some people do is follow the gut feeling of the person that answers there question first, your going to end up with a pretty random team.

I have 13 of those plus stef martin goddard and rance

Yet im 33,000 spots behind

Interested to know how many of those teams have bonts and Mitchell.. These 2 players I steered clear of personally but I think they are the most important to structures and could either be a win or loss.. Getting them at 400K and if they become top ten forwards will give teams an advantage, however skipping them and they produce a 90 average could benefit those who skipped.

6 have Bonts and 5 have Mitchell, only 2 teams had both.

I have 16 of those 17 first listed. (Have O'Brien from ADE instead of M. Cox)

The difference probably is I got Pendles in before Rd 5 and JPK last week.

That, some bad C choices, putting wrong rookies on the field and Rory Sloane, Brodie Smith and Jack Newnes have killed me.

Just a small list of reasons. :p

None of those teams look that much better than most of the standard teams everyone has around here.

It only takes one or 2 quality PODs to make a difference though.

If you took Pearce and McDonald over Prince and Newnes, at the start of the season you would be a few hundred points up.

A lot closer than the real afl which is really just three divisions, Freo, Syd, Port and Hawthorn, eight or so other sides then the rubbish (Melbourne, St.Kilda, Brisbane, GC, Carlton). These franchise clubs have killed the competition, maybe only two decent standard games a week now. Premiers will come from the top four, spoon from the bottom and the rest are wasting their time.

Realistically none of these sides are close to a premiership and by the time they're contenders the franchises will be hoarding them.

Back to the subject. You are right that there is not much difference. Given that, the question is "How do we catch them?"

I am looking to cover where I'm short of most of them and to bring in a few premiums that are less common in those teams. A lot of luck will be reqhired but having a plan is better than not.

Maximise the bye period by trading around them so you're minimising not only the chance for donuts but ensuring that your best 18 are actually decent scorers. Could mean foregoing a round 11 player like Rockliff or Deledio for now in order to get the right mix and then trading them in round 12/13 even if they might have increased in price. Might take a punt on Selwood who has a round 13 bye which is the best bye for premiums this week and leave Rockliff for a few weeks. Could also provide a positive pod if Rockliff doesn't score well for the next three weeks (he has looked out of sorts still).

Mind reader
