I'm one of the few that considers Reservoir Dogs a better movie. Why? Hard to say. It goes for a shorter time, has less budget and not as big a cast, but it is the superior flick. I think it is more tense, and it flows better than Pulp. Tough call though. Both are very good.
I didn't hate Batman, but I didn't feel as connected to the movies as I did with Superman. Batman didn't seem to have the magic that Superman did. Maybe it the absence of John Williams music, or the fact that Batman wasn't a particularly likeable character, but i've always considered Superman (and Superman 2, which was filmed at the same time) to be the best superhero adaption ever made. Batman was good fun though, especially the first one.
Thanks Jod. Stupid effort made me laugh too. People, don't realise the entire Tatooine set was destroyed in a sandstorm, and they had to rebuild the entire set. The sets in all the Star Wars films, are magnificent. Many of them took months to build. I can't understand why anyone would say the set design is shabby I'd like to see them back that up by being specific. Star Wars has many things, but one it doesn't have is shabby set design.
I enjoyed Episode I as well. A terriffic movie only marginally behind Episodes 4 and 5. I get sick of peope bagging it. Tall poppy syndrome at it's best. You wait and see them all line up for Episode 2. They'll be there. The dialogue and thematic devices that run through the film are done with the same intent and the same quality as the original three movies. This is done for a reason - to give the viewer a familiar feel with each movie. They are all made in the same way. Some are betetr than others, but the unneccesary exaggerations do get tiresome, IMHO.
I honestly cant decide between Pulp and Dogs...they both have great scripts, fantastic acting and very good direction. I also thank Pulp Fiction for resurrecting Travolta's career as i was always a fan of his. Dan have you heard about the extra bullet theory at the end of Reservoir....you know in the end everyone is pointing a gun at someone and then everyone shoots....well someone shouldnt have been shot..hard to explain, just watch it again and note how many guns there are and how many people get shot.
Cant agree with Superman, i liked Superman but i always thought that Christopher Reeve was a bit to gay to play Superman. They needed someone tougher IMO. I still liked Reeve's performance and the movies but i prefer Batman and Returns. The first two Batmans were great because they stuck to the comic character of the Dark Knight who is tortured by his past and rids the world of evil. They were much darker films than the later efforts. In Forever and Batman & Robin, Batman suddenly turned into a stand up comedian and everybody seemed to know who he was, its like he went shopping in his uniform???

You cant argue against the set design of Star Wars movies...ive seen all those making of shows and all that and some of the sets are completely built up from nothing. There amazing. For example, a movie that is set in say the 1800's about a lost temple in a huge dark jungle can be shot on a temple in a deep dark jungle...but with Star Wars, nothing exists on earth that can double for Tatooine. Sure we got the desert but the buildings all have to be built. You get what i mean?
Anyways just on Menace, the movie would have been better if Jar Jar hadnt been made the comic relief character and some of Anakin's dialogue was better. I read on EInsiders.com that the DVD version is completely retooled with totally new scenes added and some scenes taken away or redone. Stuff like when Anakin accidently takes off in the ship at the end, some of the bad dialogue he says there is taken out. Once i get a DVD player, that will be my first purchase. Oh and im totally with you on John Williams, he really is amazing. I think everyone can hum the Jurassic Park theme on command
