Pretty much agree with TD - pretty good attempt all in all (leaving aside Woods and absences noted).
I'm not game to do one myself (hats off for trying - its too hard to do it justice from London) but I would rate Kouta and Hird as joint top on last year's form, then Carey, Buckley, Voss and Grant in no particular order.
Putting on the red and black glasses...
Fletcher is top 10
Lloyd and Mercuri are both top 15
Misiti, Caracella, Blumfield, both Johnstons, Hardwick and Solomon on 2000 form should all be in at least the top 50 if not 40 - you can't tell me you'd say no to any of those guys... Heffernan and Wellman just miss out...
On other fronts, McKay and Ratten are both top 15 material but Whitnall needs to develop his game for longer IMHO.
Re: Wirra (like Kelly) - when fit - top 20 and higher - when injured - not in the top 50 I'm afraid.

Cresswell at 19
Woods at 36
Stevens at 20
Basically, these are all players I rate very highly. I admire Cresswell's ability to continually get effective possessions season after season, whether Kelly and Schwass are firing or not. I admire Woods' ability to feed Thompson, Barker and Holland so well, and still manage to shut down his opponent. Very few players have the ability to be offensive and defensive at the same time.
Stevens is the key to the Port midfield. He is quick, hard at the ball, a smart player and an excellent kick and handball.
Don't forget, the key to this list is the most influential, or potentially influential players in the league, so I stand by putting Bell at six.
I didn't forget Lance Whitnall. I don't have anything against him, it's just I feel his success is based at least partly on the abilities of the Carlton midfield, and I couldn't find a player to leave out. Sorry Blues2001, but personally I think McKay is better.
Thinking back, Wirrpunda probably should have got in somewhere or other, but I'm not sure where. There's not one player on that list I'd want to kick out.
Dutchy's a bit harsh saying there aren't enough Essendon players. There are seven, which is twice the average of three per club.
Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback. With a couple of exceptions, everyone was really very constructive.

I take on board what you say about Whitnall too Blues2K1, to be honest just haven't seen enough game tapes with him on them - plus, when I was in Melb for the GF, I saw him walking into Jenny Craig weight loss centre near the corner of Collins and Swanston - which was a tad comical and hence detracted a little from his mystique - plus I didn't think he did much against us in the 2000 PF.
But the stats are impressive.

As a Blues fan, I'd really disagree and put Whitnall above McKay quite clearly. Two years in a row he has led the AFL in marks - second in the goalkicking last year form CHF and not FF - McKay is an inspiration, but Whitnall is far more important. I'd have him top 15 for sure. His game will develop more, and in my biased opinion he will be the top CHF in the league in 3 years time, quite easily. Sorry but Lance is the one player at Carlton who I get all worked up about if someone decides they don't rate him.

Not starting a Blues war on the main board here but...
I do rate Whitnall and recognise that because that he is capable of dominating for the Blues even more than McKay has done. He is a key position player that can dominate and as such can potentially become one of the greats of the club. Trouble is when the chips are down, he can go missing. With maturity I know this will change but the runs are not quite on the board. Andy McKay however has been a shining light no matter how the Blues are travelling. He has proven himself. He will never be compared to the greatest in the game but this is as much to do with his size and position as anything else. I thank God for Andrew McKay and look forward to sitting back and watching Lance Whitnall fulfill his boundless potential.
