It is a serious sequel. Starring Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. Slated for 2018 or 2019 release.
Not sure about the trailer because it does SEEM like a mash up.

Without watching the trailer I'm going to guess that due to the fact they are recycling a movie that wasn't worthy of a sequel in 2019 there will be a black pilot, a woman pilot and the only thing left a mystery is who the bad guys will be in this.
