I think you will find that Bower and Jamison will be able to play on smaller players.

Jamison played on Medhurts when we played the Pies (his Debut) and KILLED him.
Matched him for pace (although Medhurst was somewhat underdone) quite easily.
Bower has the pace, but just not the smarts yet......but he will.

If Hartlett can't get his injuries under control, it wouldn't surprise me to see Austin trialled at CHF during the NAB cup.

Throw Thornton into that backline and yes, it starts to look top heavy.

I really don't think so. All those 4 players are tall and fast, just what you need for the modern game. We'll probably end up using fast 188cm-190cm types like Joey Anderson and Walker to provide rebound and matchups for the opposition short people. We struggled last year when we played 2 slow talls in the defensive half e.g. Saddington and Whitnall V Hawks. We just need some stability in our gameplan, some experience, and some more midfield pressure, and I think our defensive group should develop nicely, and could well end up as our strength.

I think that Bower is more of a very quick tall running backman than anything and won't really hold down a key spot such as CHB or FB IMO.
I expect a backline group of something around; Thornton, Jamison, Bower, Scotland, S. O'hAilpin, Anderson, Austin and sometimes maybe Walker to be used mostly next year.

Thornton will take the third tall, Setanta will take Ruck/Fwds and the type and be given key roles also on players like Lucas or Lloyd Vs. Essendon.

Austin IMO will be given most of another year to develop in the VFL in 2008 before given a big crack at seniors to prove himself towards the end, still needs a couple of pre-seasons before we worry about him being top-heavy.

The only gorilla in the bunch is Setanta, and he isn't exactly slow.

I think what you might find next year is the forward and backlines will be a merry go round!
We have; Thornton, Russell, Scotland, O'aHalpin, Bower, Gibbs, Hartnett, Walker, Houlihan, Waite, Anderson, Saddington, Austin, Bannister, Wiggins, Jackson, Jamison and Carrazzo all capable of playing through the middle and the back line to the forward line. I think once we get settled we could have the most versitile side in the League.

Jamison isn't that tall, there's ONB probably not much different in height to him.

I still think Anderson's development is much more important than what people think.

Jamo and Bower can both play on the smaller forwards but I can't see them playing on the 6ft goal sneak or true FP player. We have been smashed in recent years against players like.

Didak, Farmer, N Davis basically any good crumbing forward. The backline is very agile considering height, but I still think a sub 190cm defender with good pace ie Anderson is required

yeh nice baclines u guys propose but i think waite should be at CHB with Sentanta at FB. Waite is a tall athletic plaqyer who showed his goods against Reiwoldt

Walker can play very tight when he has too. Just ask Robbo, Aker and Hird.

Anderson plyed well vs Eagleton, but Porplyzia tore him apart in, maybe his second game, when we played the Crows.
Not saying he won't make it, but next year might be too soon for him.

Walker can give us this coverage, and with Stevo, Judd, Gibbs and Hadley joining the midfield rotation we can probably spare Walker on the HBF...........short term.

I'm actually hoping Scotland plays off a wing, which these days is really a mid who isn't in the square.
He has the skills to find space, run to receive and hit targets going forward off either foot.
Agree the backline isn't his best spot.

We've been screaming for a decent defence/some height in defence/a real CHB for years. I don't think we're even close to having a fully-stocked backline as yet (thought these guys could develop into it), so being 'top heavy' isn't a problem I'd mind having.
