Simple one. Check out the papers to see who has hampered pre-seasons due to injury or surgury.
Durability of players is always good too. Usually tells you how many games they played last year.

1 Don't pick tall forward's in your forward line pick forwards that play in the midfield insted. Forward's that can play in other areas score more then just plain forwards
2 Pick the richest priced premo's their worth alot of money for a reason
3.STARTwith players like Ablett, Swan and Pendlebury in your team they are worth it even if the rest of your team struggles.

OK then...... Mine.... FWIW.

1. The number 1 rookie is rarely better than the #10 rookie.
2. Rookies in rebuilding clubs will play more.
3. Rucks are a pain in the @ss and without fail will let you down at some stage. Most likely, when u have no trades left and need to win a game to stay alive.

What I learnt from my first season

1) Always check break evens on ALL players
2) Choose players who are not injury prone and consistently perform
3) Don't waste all your trades at the start

Depending on how newbie-ish we're talking, these are the three that I wish I knew before I played in my very first year:
  • SC scores are not the same as "real life". Great defenders like Glass and Merrett can be great (and cheap) but will not score points in SC. Your only focus should be on SC scores.
  • Don't pick injured players in your initial team. Yes, they will come back at some point but you've put yourself on the back foot straight away because other teams have all their team available.
  • Midpricers are rarely worth it. There's a reason guns and rookies are an always popular option - the massive majority of midpricers remain midpricers and don't score well year to year.

No tall forwards apart from Buddy (Cox is the exception this year)
If you're picking a premium mid, be as sure as you can be that they will be in the top 8 scoring mids by the end of the year
Get ablett, put the captaincy on him and leave it for the entire year.

1) Initial rookies - key to rapid improvement (factor in Rookie draw/fixture if you really want to screw with your mind!)
2) Map the best premiums in each area, work out who you will start with and how to get the rest.
3) nab cup form with relation to team for Rd 1 - some players traditionally start slowly

1) Get Ablett
2) Make him captain.
3) Say goodbye to the wife and kid and any friends for the next few months until your final team is picked

1) Spend wisely on players who are unlikely to be in the best 22
2) Guys like Didak and Higgins are cheap for a reason
3) Key forwards or defenders don't score anything for wearing their opponents like a glove. Fill your side with running players that will sweep the ball away and take the cream.

Any side without Ablet is giving the rest of the comp a headstart

I usually would agree with this, but this year as well as Buddy I also have Walker and am also Looking at Hawkins.

My rules are

1. Always pick Ablett
2. Try and pick the big 'break out' players. Jack, Dangerfield, Beams, Sidebottom etc.
3. Never pick Shaun Higgins (he is having his 'best ever pre season' this year, don't get tempted.)

Don't have Ablett in my time at the moment, I am feeling pressured to have him in my team now.

1. No, under-the-table 3rd party payments to players in order to squeeze them under the cap DO. NOT. WORK.
2. Disposal efficiency is important in Supercoach. If you have 20 kicks and 19 of them go to the opposition, your player will not score well, unlike in dreamteam.
3. You have more trades, emergencies and chances to avoid 0's this year compared to previous years, so don't dare whinge!
4. Learn to count to 3 ;)
