Maybe if campaigners on here stopped calling them cheats before their trial they wouldn't be so concerned about anonymity?

Chicken or egg?

You're the only campaigner around here. And at Essendon, they don't need eggs to produce chickens with what they were injecting.

This is starting to get really silly now, this is the sort of stuff that is going to make people give away following the AFL and move closer to their own local grass roots club.

Rival AFL clubs will reluctantly allow their VFL talent to join Essendon as top-up players, realising this is the most practical option to ensure the NAB Challenge and the AFL season proceeds amid the ongoing supplements saga.

Several clubs on Monday privately admitted it "wasn't ideal" that they could lose players to the Bombers, even though these players were not on their primary AFL list. However, all clubs are keen for as less distraction as possible heading into the new season.

The AFL Commission ruled on Monday that the Bombers would be restricted to signing a maximum of two players per any VFL and state-league based side to help fill their side, initially for the pre-season competition.

The 25 players from the club's 2012 list will not take part in the competition, helping to protect the anonymity of the 17 provisionally suspended and charged with taking the banned dug, thymosin beta-4.

The Commission also ruled the Bombers could temporary sign any player not currently on an AFL list but who had been on an AFL list in the last two seasons.

If they aren't on the AFL club's list, how is that club "losing players"? It is getting silly, but this seems the least of anyone's genuine worries.

Essendon players get suspended but the other clubs have to supply them with players so they can field a team ??

I'm sorry, I find that completely ludicrous in the extreme.

If this gets dismissed for drugs being taken but can't prove by who then they will all be labelled cheats rather then just the ones banned, anonymity or not it won't change much

I'm not so bothered. A chance to see something different. If Essendon have the worst outcome - from their POV - I will go along to watch a game of new and old when they play Melbourne. (I'm just a bit worried they will win)

so the HTB spent a week abusing Essendon because they didnt want to play the NAB with top up players, now Essendon are copping abuse for agreeing to field a team in the NAB with top up players............

Never change HTB, never ever change

Don't have a problem with them securing players from state or country leagues but not from the clubs affiliated with the other 17 AFL clubs.

which is probably pretty silly given they were most likely given a banned substance without knowing it. Saad tested positive yet I dont think anyone in their right mind would think of him as a drug cheat, just someone who wasnt diligent enough

They shouldnt need players if their team was held to their contracts. voluntarily standing down when not under suspension should be penalised. I dont care what the reason is.

No-one has said it about te blokes no longer at Essendon.... maybe public sympathy is with them because they are known???

What happens if the Essendon players get rubbed out for 12-months then ??

It'll be a little more than practice matches FFS !!!
Have these new arrangments been proposed for the season proper?

the players made the decision to make themselves unavailable. Are we gooing to force players to play against their will now?

You damn well should be or you should be forfeiting and the players penalised for not fulfilling the terms of their contracts. this is a soft**** approach.
